Re: something old....

  • Do any of your family members have any old pieces of jewelry that you admire (maybe a grandmother)? If so, I would just straight up ask them if you could borrow it. Most people don't think about these things, but I think most family members would be happy to let you use something of theirs. I ended up wearing my late grandmother's original engagment ring. The original diamond had since fallen out, but my mom (sweetly) offered to have it replaced (it was tiny so it was only a few hundred). If she hadn't offered, I probably would have asked my living grandma if she had anything that she wouldn't mind me wearing...

I wore my mom's class ring.  Also, my wedding band is my great grandmother's, reset to fit my tiny hand.

Edit: I also borrowed a pearl bracelet from my SIL.  I am not good at jewelry.

  • Ill have to ask my mom and g-ma if they have anything. I dont remember mention of any peices but it might be a possibility. Can the old and borrowed be the same thing. I dont want to screw up this and have my marrriage damned forever...haha
  • I asked to borrow a handkerchief from my DH's grandmother--which I lost after the ceremony.  Good thing it wasn't my something old.

For my something old, I asked my mom if I could pin her cameo to my bouquet.

  • Sometimes people just don't want to offer anything up with the thought you may have something else planned. I am sure that someone in your family will have something they'd love to contribute.
  • I had a bunch of 'something old' items, but if there isn't any family jewelry that you can wear, maybe a penny in your shoe from the year your husband was born or the year you started dating? I had a penny from my birth year that I used that my grandmother kept that I kept in my shoe during the ceremony. I also had the Army Air Corps pilot's wings that my Grampa gave my Grammie when they were dating and a string of pearls that I put on my bouquet, with my other Grandma's old hankie in my bra.

  • My old was my mom's pearl necklace and my borrowed was a friends pearl bracelet.  I would see if your grandparents or parents have a hankerchief or jewelry you can wear.
