How many is too many?

When it comes for a dress fitting, how many is too many when it comes to bringing people along? I know many people means many opinions. But in your experience or from what you've heard, is there a number that might be too many in regards to picking out a dress?

I was thinking of bringing my two best friends, my SIL, and my parents. That doesn't seem large but I can never be too sure.

What do you think?

That sounds like too many to me. I took my 2 bridesmaids and that's it.

When it came to picking out a dress, I invited my mom, FMIL (who couldn't come), my MOH and my sister.

A couple weeks later when I decided to purchase the dress I fell in love with, my mom, dad, MOH, sister, and one of my other BMs came. I just wanted to show it off then :-)

for a fitting or picking out the dress? those are 2 different events.

to pick out a dress, i took just my mom to the 1st 2 stores. then my mom and one of my BMs to the 3rd (where i found my dress)

for the fititng, just my mom came, so she could learn how to do the bustle. for the fitting i wished i had brought alone 1 or 2 more people so that more people knew how to do the bustle properly

Oops, I meant for picking out the dress. I didn't realize that I jumbled it up! This is what happens when I don't proof-read what I write!

You all make good points though. I might just bring my mom and either my MIL or my MOH. My MIL lives in GA though, so it might be difficult for her. My MOH can be my back-up.

I brought 4 of my sisters along with me... I invited all 6 of my sisters plus my sister in law because I value all of their opinions so much and we all have very similar taste, so I trusted that they wouldn't be annoyingly opinionated. Honestly, I think it depends on your crowd. If my sisters all had different tastes and would base their opinion of my dress off of what they like rather than what I like, I wouldn't have invited them because then I would have just gotten annoyed. I've seen nightmare crowds on Say Yes to the dress... yikes

For picking out my dress I brought 5 people (my bridal party-3 people, my mom, and my sister). However, I know that each person knows my style and is honest in thought, so I knew there wasn't going to be major conflict when it came to opinions.

For my fitting, I went by myself.

I brought like 7 people with me and it was too many. I wish that I would have only brought like 1 or 2 friends. Then I started to feel bad when I was taking along time. Some girls wanted me to try dresses that I wouldn't wear in a million years. The BM starting asking me about BM dresses. It was very overwhelming. Then again, I prefer to shop alone because I like to take my time.

I brought 5, but they were all family and all female: my mom, aunt, cousin (MOH, and she tried on a couple bridesmaid dresses as well), and both grandmothers.

I had an average of 2 per appointment. Mostly though I only went with my mom. The less people you have, the least amount of opinions you get. You want someone who is honest but who is still considerate of your feelings.

ETA: Don't be shy to state YOUR opinion when it comes to dresses. It's important that people (especially the consultant) know how you feel about the dresses so they can pick one that complements you best.

I normally do all of my clothes shopping alone so I definitely didn't want too many people with me for dress shopping. The first time I had my mom and my sister, the second time was my mom, sister and a BM, and the third time (when I bought the dress) was my sister and BM.

I think 2-3 people is good. Helpful, but not too many opinions going all over the place.

It was just me and my mom for the first round (she lives OOT - we hit 5 salons in 3 days). We narrowed it down to our top 2 (happened both were are the same store). We knew our rankings. Then I brought my MOH and FMIL to the final selection to confirm that #1 was the dress.

I initially went by myself to pick out the dress. None of my family lives by me, and I didn't want to drag a friend around. My parents and sister were in town and came along when I made the final decision.
Did both of my fittings by myself for the same reasons. My bustle only had one point, so it was pretty easy for my mom to figure out.

If you trust the opinion of each one of them then I say bring them all. There are not too many decisions to be made at that point but it is a nice time to have close family and friends there with you. Good luck and have fun!!

i took just my mom - and i'm glad i did, i was totally overwhelmed and all emotional for the first try-ons. she helped me stay on task/in budget, brought hers and my grandparents' wedding photos which totally got the consultant all excited, and she even brought snacks, tissues, and extra deodorant (which was handy as i was sweating like crazy!). gotta love mom. plus - it made her feel really special that i only wanted her with me, even though others wanted to come. so that alone made it the right choice.

we narrowed it down, and then the next week i went back with a 2 good friends/BMs to get their opinions since they know my sense of style better than my mom does. we all had the same favorite anyway! so i bought it! then they took me for a margarita when i got buyer's remorse in the parking lot. perfect!
