March 2012 Weddings

Flowers

OMG where do I start? I went to a bridal show yesterday and seriously got 12 different fliers from florists. I know we want to use the wine bottles we've been collecting:

Where do I start in picking flowers? I like the way these carnations look... but should I also think about hydrangeas and or succulents? Should I just use one flower or multiple?

My bouquet is a brooch bouquet and the BM are bead bouquets, so it's really just the centerpieces that I need to worry about...

Re: Flowers

  • I love succulents, but I think that the carnations would be soo pretty. Although a fan of hydrangeas also, I think that it may make your bottles look a little unproportionate. What I would probably do, is take the bottles to your nearest Garden Ridge/Hobby Lobby/Michaels and stick some fake ones in there just to see what looks best, and then order your flowers based off of that?

PS I used to work in floral decor :) They really do change the look of the table!!

<div>Thanks! Do you think most floral places would just sell me the flowers? I don't think I need someone to arrange five carnations in a wine bottle :)</div>

  • Absolutely! You can definitely order bunches of carnations and just stagger them within the bottle. I would probably go to your nearest Sam's or Costco for freshness and quality, but typically carnations are relatively inexpensive just about anywhere (I'd avoid the grocery stores, though bc they tend to wilt quickly)  :)

Be sure if you do stagger, to check online for cutting instructions for the shorter ones. It's best to go at a slant, with the angle depending on the flower.
  • I like the idea of taking them to a local Michael's/ craft store to get an idea of what kind of look you like!!

  • I think you've gotten great advice! It's hard to tell what you like until you really see it put together so taking the bottles to look at options is probalby your best bet. I saw several florists who were willing to sell the flowers only so I'm sure that won't be a problem. I have a friend who got all of her wedding flowers at Whole Foods and another who got them at Sam's Club so I agree that those are good options.

Ah good point, Whole Foods would be the only grocery store I would go with :) Lol totally forgot about them!
  • I agree about Sams or Costco.  They sell flowers in bulk and always have beautiful, fresh flowers!  You can probably order them ahead too.  I LOVE the red carnations.  They look fantastic against the white bolttles. Very creative, cute idea!

  • michaels has most of their flowers for 40%off so you can get high quality silks and faux flowers for cheap there or costco if you want real. carnations would go nice or peonies (love peopnies) the hydrangea wont fit well with those bottles but if u love them u can arange them around the bottom of the bottles.  good luck

<div>Ha! Ours will actually be white flowers in white bottles, since they don't really come in our colors. But we'll have some color on the tables with the runners and napkins, so I think it will look very nice.</div>

  • I seriously love the wine bottles first off all, but I'd definitely go with the carnations. I second the Costco idea. I get fresh bouquets all the time and they're gorgeous! I can't recall if I've ever seen an all white carnation bouquet, but it's worth a try!

  • I LOVE your wine bottles!  And I think the carnations would look fantastic in them!

Side question - did you finish your bouquet yet??? I"m dying to see what it looks like!!!
