Band/DJ??

Was wondering everyone's thought on having eiether a band or a dj? or any suggestions for both. I have started to see some of them booking up already and this is making me nervous. I thought I had more time, but after talking to some bands, some are not even available for my date!! So any suggestions for band's or dj's are greatly appreciated.

TIA!!!

personally, i like DJs better. I LOVE the idea of a band and live music, but unless its a really good band, i have seen far too many of them at weddings play certain types of music - like 70's disco, or 80's hairbands and rock (which i actually love) - but with bands theres almost no chance of any of the popular radio stuff of right now (Rhianna, PitBull, Chris Brown, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry) being played.

Know yourself and your guests - are there  alot of dancers who would like that booty-shakin music? Or would people be happier with live music and sing-along type stuff? Ultimately it's YOUR wedding, what do you like?

If it's in your budget there is nothing like live music, but make sure you get a Great band. Djs are good to to have along with a band so you can have current hits played too.

We had a band, Maggie Speaks, if you google Maggie Speaks they are out of Chicago. They also have a couple of 'sister bands', that are very similar but a little cheaper in price. They added these bands after they started to get so popular.

Dance floor was packed all night. They played a huge variety from Michael Jackson to Madonna to Pitbull. It was the only time I have ever seen a band played at a wedding, so I don't have much else to offer in terms of bands.

Oh FYI- we booked them back in October 2010 for our September 2011 wedding, and it was a Friday, so they had availability. They were booked for a solid year or more on Saturdays. I'm not sure how far out you have to book for the ''sister bands.''

I've seen Maggie Speaks at a few bars out in the South Suburbs (here i'm from originally) and they are AWESOME! That is definitely one of those great wedding bands.

I'm curious as to how much they were... would you mind sharing?
