So torn....

Ladies I cannot decide between venues!!!!!!! Arggggh!

We've narrowed it to Safety Harbor, Mirror Lake, and Rusty Pelican.
Arranged in order from most expensive to cheapest. Help me choose please!

Our theme is a formal vintage jazz brunch and our ceremony will be on the beach in Clearwater.

Well, you already know my pick :)

The Lyceum is perfect for your theme, but it is quite a trek from Clearwater Beach.  Are you stuck on CB or can you have the ceremony on SPB or a closer beach?

I voted for Rusty Pelican, but I'm biased since thats where I am having mine :) They really have been great to me and a great location for the price!

Just because of your theme, I picked the Lyceum, but I love Rusty Pelican and you can't go wrong with their prices, either!

Those all seem pretty far from your ceremony..

Mirror lake is the farthest , rusty P the closest, and Saftey harbor in between, Both Rusty and Safety are a straight shot, about 25 minutes and 30 minutes respectively.

Bre my dilemma is that I am stuck on the distance from CB to Mirror Lake. I am sold on CB  because I really want the powder white sand for the ceremony. The I love mirror lake but Rusty is closer and a good deal. Sigh, ladies I so appreciate you listening to the rant

Your guests are still going to be on the beach and are going to get the beach experience with sand in their shoes no matter whether it's CB or SPB.  KWIM?  It's honestly not THAT much different than SPB, Treasure Island, Pass-A-Grille, etc. which are conisderably closer and more convenient for your guests as well as you and your BP.  For me,  I'd get over the sand thing if that's the only factor.  It's your day though.

Just so I understand...how do you plan on handling the ceremony?  Are you renting charis and setting everything up yourselves on a public beach area?  Do you have a coordinator?  How's it all going down?

Hiring a coordinator , to set all of that jazz up for us. I know it's a little factor but the only reason I'm having the wedding in Tampa/Clearwater was because of the powder white sand. Otherwise I would've had it in Miami my hometown. To me it's the closest to the powder white of Mexico (which I love) so yeah lol, my wedding has been planned around that sand.

Do you think if I have it at Mirror Lake I should provide transportation?

I personally just think a 45 minute drive after a ceremony is too long, even if someone else is doing the driving. I'm not trying to be rude I'm just giving you my honest opinion. You have a while to go before you need to make this decision, so maybe it's worth searching a little longer for somewhere in CLW. There are hidden gems ALL over the place that we sometimes miss when we first look.

My first thought is the traffic to and from Clearwater Beach will make it difficult. I live close to Clearwater Beach and do this drive all the time. Even in the "off season" it's busy. On a Saturday afternoon/evening... heading to CWB will be very hard and people will be late. I got married in Feb which is technically "off season" at Sand Key Beach (so not even Clearwater!) and the traffic was horrendous and people were running late. Keep this in mind. If you want CWB, I'd book a reception venue out there so you don't have to drive to and fro. Good luck!

How many guests are you talking about?  If I remember correctly, you have at least 100 right?  As much as I love ML, I tend to agree with the pp's.  If the most important thing is having your ceremony on CB and your whole wedding is planned around that, then I think you should look for a closer reception venue, especially if it's a larger wedding.

I'm not really sure how any provided transportation would help because your guests would have to drive to the ceremony on CB and then take buses or something to SP for the reception and then get back to their cars in CB at some point.  People like to leave at all different times and it would be very costly to pay a transportation company to go 30-45 minutes each way all night.

It's your day though, so just keep in mind that if you do decide to have the reception in SP, you might get a lot of guests who only attend the reception and not the ceremony.  Have you thought about possibly having a smaller, more intimate ceremony and then a big reception for everyone?  Just "thinking out loud"...

This is why I love these boards, helps but things in perspective.

I hadn't thought about fighting traffic from CWB to SP. Since our wedding is on a Monday morning (Memorial Day) at 10 am and all of the guests will be from out of town (250 guests), FI and I were thinking of renting trolleys to pick up the guests at the hotel, take them to the ceremony, then take them to the reception on a "tour" like seeing the sites along the way. We want a short reception I was thinking 11:30- 1:30/2pm.

I have been search CW up and down for a venue within our budget that can accomodate our numbers without the need of heavy decor. If you gals know of any please let me know. I've ruled out the rec center, Hyatt hotel, Island way grill, and one other location becuase of budget or size

Oh boy!  I didn't realize you were getting married on Memorial Day.  Forget 45 minutes...I'm pretty sure if you got from CB to SP in an hour that day you'd be lucky.  Most people are going to be at the beach early that day and the traffic will be killer.  You are brave girl!  And 250 people?!

I'm not sure what you mean by renting a trolley to go to SP because if you're talking about the Jolley Trolley or something similar, they only go within a few miles up and down the beach to my knowledge.  Trolleys don't go on the highway which is what you would need for that kind of trip.  Even if they did, you'd need like 5 of them to transport that large of a group.

I think you'd better either find a closer venue or just have people make the trek on their own.  But, realisitically, you are going to need to allow a MINIMUM of 1 hour for people to get from CB to SP on Memorial Day.  The traffic is going to be horrendous and I think your guests could get pretty annoyed, especially if the reception is only 2 hours because they could miss it by the time they arrived :-/  Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks Bre :/ we're going this Memorial Day to gauge it all. Is traffic as bad going away from the beach as it is going to the beach?

I don't think it will be quite as bad leaving, but it all depends on the time.  The traffic around the beach will be pretty much bumper to bumper in the area unless something drastic has changed there in the last couple of years.  I think it's a good idea to come down this Memorial Day to get a good idea.  GL!

Ummm YES! I noticed yesterday coming home that traffic off the beach was bumper to bumper all the way to the bridge to get to Tampa (Meaning it was afternoon and everyone was leaving the beach trying to go elsewhere). It was rush hour & spring break, but it also was a TUESDAY! I mean times that by a ton and you'll have a good idea how bad traffic is around here on Memorial Day. You're from Miami... I'm sure it's just as bad if not worse there. You should be able to understand that beach traffic! Good luck.

So many girls have done their ceremony & reception at Rusty Pelican and LOVED it. You get the beach, you get the ball room, I mean it's pretty much what you're trying to do just in one location!
