need officiant!

Okay knotties-I/we need an officiant...we only go to church on major holidays with whatever family member were with so it varies plus we don't want a heavy religious ceremony....more spiritual and romantic/funny you know the usual..I'm having a hard and overwhelming time looking online at strangers and am starting to get a little emotional about it since it can really make or break the experience for the two of us....help please :)ps.  can't think of any friends or family to get officiated btw

Do you have a budget for one?  I used Molly Lyons and she was awesome.  But she was about 370 for writing the ceremony, travel and coming to the rehearsal and wedding.  Totally worth it though, she's very warm and personable.  She made Austin and I comfortable with her about 5 minutes after meeting her. Here's her website if you want it:www.creativecommitmentceremonies.com

We are using Chris Breen and he is amazing! He used to be a pastor but has since retired, but he will create any kind of ceremony you are looking for. We asked for little religion in ours. He wrote the most amazing ceremony for us, I am so excited. christopherbreen@aol.comHe runs $400, a little high, but definitly worth it.

Reverend Ray! Reverend Ray! Reverend Ray!  He was fabulous and everyone enjoyed the ceremony.  He'll do any kind of ceremony you want, and you play a role in creating your ceremony.  He charges $250 and that includes coming to the rehearsal.  He has a great voice and good personality.  www.reverendray.com

MrsH - or anyone else who recommends Reverend Ray...I am excited that his site says "light-hearted as you want it to be"  do you think he would do the wedding scene from Princess Bride? Mawwage. Mawwage is what bwings us togethew today.I get nervous at the thought of asking a professional to be so silly, but I saw a YouTube video today of a pastor who did it for a couple...although, it was a couple from his church so they knew him well and neither the FI or I know any officiants religious or otherwise.

i also recommend reverend ray. i've been to a few weddings he's done and he is awesome. like PP said, he will do WHATEVER you want. so a scene from a movie would be perfect. he really is amazing and so easy to work with. PLUS he is only 250. what a steal!

I haven't checked in here in a while, but I saw this.  Yes, Rev Ray would do that scene!  He's done marriages as Elvis, at the Ren Faire in robes, and other unusual requests.  He's got a good sense of humor and (I think) might enjoy the request.  But, really, you do get to pretty much get the ceremony you want, serious or light-hearted.

Have you found someone yet? If not, you can look on http://www.gatheringguide.com/event_dir/wa_washington/seattle/evl_wedding_officiants.html and see a range of possibilities. I agree with you there's a good balance of humor and seriousness. You don't want everyone to get bored, but you also want your ceremony to be genuine.
