Blocking Hotel Rooms

Was wondering how many rooms everyone blocked for their wedding.  We are having between 130-140 guests.  Most of our guests are within a 30mins-hour from our venue but I feel like many would want to stay over anyhow.  I was thinking of blocking 30 rooms but I'm not sure if that will be enough?  Any input would help.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms

  • There is nothing wrong with blocking out too many. The hotel will need the reservations probably a month before. However, are you sure that many would want to stay overnight? There is no way I would unless the distance was over 2 hours. I am inviting about 220 people and I reserved 15 rooms and my Fianc is from Virginia.

<div>I think alot of the guests coming from Long Island will want to stay over.  I know our entire bridal party wants to stay and we have 12 each.  I guess I should put out feelers to see who is going to stay over.  It's a Friday night and our wedding doesn't end until 12:30am so I'm thinking people may be tired and just want to stay over to be safe.</div>
  • I am having about 150 guests and we blocked off 15 rooms, but I was told I can always add more if I need.  I get a monthly update from the hotel to see where we stand so I know if I should add more.

  • We are inviting 250, expect about 180 and have blocked 35 rooms. We have some OOT family members as well as friends who live an hour or so away.

Hi! This is a great topic!

We also blocked off 35 rooms for now (We have est. 140 guests) and most of those are coming from a different state.

Our hotel mentioned that they do not "really" have a cap on the rooms so if someone calls to reserve a 36th room beyond our initial block - and there are rooms available - the hotel will accomadate and the guests will receive the special rate up to 1 month prior to our wedding.

    Hope that helps!

  • Great thanks this helps alot!  Now I just have to find a hotel near my venue that isn't shady.  It's the only downfall about our location!
  • Make sure you find out when the discount ends for your guests and tell them. We didn't know there was a cutoff and got screwed staying over at a cousin's wedding. Booked the room a week before and didn't know the discount had ended. We paid twice what the others paid and I didn't realize until the bill arrived under our door.
