Art Gallery Venue -- How to Decorate?

Hi Everyone!

We’re getting married in an art gallery and I’m having trouble deciding how to decorate. The gallery has two sides: we’ll have our ceremony on the side that is shows traditional art and then move into the contemporary art side for dinner.
Most of the art in the dinner area will be abstract landscapes by Gail Norris.

Here are links to the gallery and the artwork:

Since there will be so many big, bold colors there, I’m not really sure what to do for centerpieces, flowers etc. (They said we could have candles as long as they're sturdy but I don't think we want to risk it). We’re thinking it’s best to keep the decorations simple.  Also, my bridesmaid’s will be wearing black. Is that weird?   Thanks in advance for helping me brainstorm!

(Oops, I can tell I'm tired right now... take out the extra "is" and read it "Morris" not "Norris."  You know what I mean. :P )

No worries about the spelling :)  I've been to a wedding at the Bently Projects, if your place is similar, the raw warehouse feel was almost like decor in itself.  I would use a lot of candles and flowers.  And if your budget is sizeable enough maybe those decorative fake trees that have no leaves.  Those always look cool. But depends on what you're going for I guess.

A crystal tree would look great I think! Maybe do that on a few and use some votives and minimal/less vibrant flowers (maybe white) on the others.

I wore black in a wedding once a few years back and I think that it can look very sleek and clean if done right. I also think that if the art in the gallery is colorful black is a good idea for your girls so they don't really clash with the elements in the room.

i am doing a similar thing. We are having the wedding and reception at tempe center for the arts and my bridesmaids are wearing a black and white print. When you have the wedding at a venue that already has a personality simple is the best approach! I am doing simple candles and monochromatic flowers. If you are worried about the open flame situation they make really realistic battery powered candles. If done right it won't look cheesy and will make the room sparkle. Don't over decorate, make the unique venue speak for itself.
