DIY invitations ...aaaaagh!

Just needed to vent.

We addressed the first 20 fully completed invitations today. I've got another stack of 30 that only need the ribbon "belly band" but I ran out of ribbon. I cut enough of the different papers today to make 25 more.

After we're done with this, I'm pretty certain I will never want to use a rotary paper cutter again. And I really regret the decision to make the ribbon belly bands, because it's turning out to be really expensive. I didn't expect a roll of ribbon to only last 8 invitations!

I'm ready for these to be done and sent!!

  • I feel you on the ribbon cost.  I went to JoAnns and the ribbon came out to almost $50!  The next day, I went to Hobby Lobby and thank God they were having a 50% off sale on their ribbon, so I was able to return the ribbon from JoAnns and save some money.  The ribbon belly band that I am doing is actually two pieces of ribbon, so it's double!

  • I'm having a hard time finding enough ribbon. The type of ribbon I picked is from Walmart. We recently moved to a relatively small town in Tennessee (Sevierville), and our closest Walmart has no craft section at all! We went to a Walmart in Knoxville and they only had two rolls of it, so we bought them. Saturday we're heading out to Jefferson City and Morristown to clean out their Walmarts of gold ribbon. Tongue Out

I'm glad that when I was making the pocketfolds, I still lived in Columbus. They're made from posterboard, and I can get 3 invitations out of each piece of posterboard. I bought the posterboard from Hobby Lobby, and kept cleaning them out of it. There were 4 stores within an easy reach of me and I just made rotations around, buying them each out of dark red posterboard, then when one store would restock, I'd make the rounds again. I think after my last trip to the one in Knoxville where I picked up 6 more sheets, I've finally amassed enough to finish all my invitations, but I'll buy more in Morristown just in case.

I'm sure someone at Hobby Lobby's home office is wondering when dark red posterboard got so popular.
