October 2012 Weddings

seasonal allergies...ugh

i discovered i'm allergic to ragweed, which really sucks because it's literally EVERYWHERE! I pass fields of it on my daily commute.
i'm congested, stuffy and sneezy and i hate it.  i just learnd of this allergy last week and i said to my fiance "how did this happen? i was fine last year!" and he says "no, you were asking me the same thing last year at this exact time."  oh.

i'm reeeeeeally hoping this goes away soon and doesn;t last the 2 months until my wedding.  it should ease up once the weather cools but here in Ontario, we've had both hot and snowy octobers.

Re: seasonal allergies...ugh

  • Get yourself some Claritin, especially for wedding day.  I've had seaonal allergies forever and Claritin and prescription Flonase are the only things that work for me.  Zyrtec and Allegra both make be tired (even though they say they's non drowsy, they're not!)  Generic Claritin is pretty cheap and it works : )

  • I live here in Quebec/ontario border and I feel your pain...

I take the generic version of Reactin and it helps a bit... even our do is allergic to Ragweed... he is miserable...

I wish you the best in feeling better! Remember if you take allergy pills on your wedding day, make sure you dont' drink to much, I am not sure about mixing antihistamines and alchoal.
  • i reeeeally hope it doesn't last until my wedding!!  i'm currently taking 2 benadryl each day and a heavier doseage benadryl at night.  this is the first year i'm actually hoping for a cold october!!
oh, and our wedding is dry, so no need to worry about mixing meds and alcohol.
  • I've been pretty bad too - we recently just got a cat - and I was thinking I may be allergic to her, but I think its more the time of year... I'm a zyrtec person though...claritan makes me shaky!
  • I'm in the same boat... usually my allergies are so bad in the fall that I cannot put my contacts in, and I will NOT wear glasses at my wedding. (I can't see without 'em, so this could be interesting.)

Soon enough I'll start my daily allergy meds regimen and hopefully, I'm begging and praying, it won't be too bad this year.... specifically October 27....
  • I have really bad allergies and finally got them under control this year. The doctor put me on zyrtec (over the counter) in the morning with flonase (prescribed) and singular (prescribed) at night.  The singular has made all the difference.  I take it in tablet form but you can also get it in Inhaler form.  I can finally function!  I also recommend a dust mite mattress cover!
