Re: Hump Day Wednesday

  • My vent is wedding related... it's a lot more difficult than I thought it would be to plan a wedding in 10 months. I didn't even know December was a popular month, but apparently it is. If I were a less picky person, it would probably be fine, but I'm not. I'm someone who gets my heart set on something I love and then has a difficult time liking something else. I'm having difficulty letting go of my Tony Hoffer and Tendenza dream. I know there's no point in wanting what I can't have, but I can't seem to help it. I'm defintely frustrated and I hope I don't run into problems with booking every single vendor. And, my frustration is manifesting itself into extreme bitchiness towards my FI, so I feel bad about that as well because he doesn't deserve it. Ugh.

Angelstar - In my opinion, it's better to extend your engagement than to compromise on what you want. I wish I would have taken this advice back in the summer when someone told me to potentially change our date. Find a date that works for all of your prerequisites and don't worry if it's a little bit further in the future. You have your WHOLE life to be married! Unless there's literally no way to do anytime after December, I'd say change it to 2013. You'll have a ton more options and you'll get exactly what you want.

Plus, having a wedding around the holidays is hard for many people and you may benefit from moving till afterwards. You'll have more people able to attend and you won't have that major monetary burden around the holidays.

    Just one person's opinion!

Edit: Oh and my vent of the day is that I absolutely hate my job.

I wish we could move it to 2013 but that's probably not an option for us. FI might be going into the military to be a JAG lawyer in January. We won't know for sure until probably this summer, but by that time it would be way too late to book anything. I know we could get married first and have the party later, but neither of us wants to do that, so we're pretty much set on December.

Well, that's a good enough reason not to push it till 2013! At my law school, JAG interviewed during OCI, which was during the summer...it sucks that they wait so long to give you a definitive answer!

I'd suggest looking into more traditional venues if you're running into issues with finding a unique space and then just spending extra money on decor. I've seen some fantastic things done with ballrooms that you would never imagine!

I hear you though; I totally wanted something different. We ended up going with something kind of different and I'm actually wishing we would have went with something more traditional now. Costs piling up because everything is an add-on, having to transport everyone everywhere, etc. It would almost be a blessing to have a traditional ballroom wedding at this point.
