cupcakes?

Hi!

We're liking the idea of doing cupcakes for the reception.  Has anyone researched this in terms of bakers or cost?

Thanks!

I haven't researched it, but I've been to weddings that had cupcakes by Take the Cake and also by Flying Buttercream. There's also a bakery downtown that I've driven past a few times that I know specializes in cupcakes-Abby Girl Sweets.

We are doing cupcakes through Tres Belle Cakes.  The basic price is $30/dozen (so about $2.50/cupcake).  This is comparable to cake, however, she recommended ordering more cupcakes than people, since some guest will eat more than one.  (This is not usually true with regular cake).

We're using Abby Girl Sweets downtown.  We're planning on 4 flavors, and the cupcakes are about $2.15 ea plus delivery and cupcake stand rental.  It came out to about $600 for 250 cupcakes, and their flavors are pretty amazing!  One thing to keep in mind with Abby Girl is that they don't do cakes, so you can't get a small cake to cut.  This didn't bother us though because we love their cupcakes.

Just call them to come in for a tasting.  You get four free cupcakes.

Three Tiers Cakes in Bellevue, KY does both cupcakes and cakes, and all of her stuff is wonderful! And she is affordable with cupcakes starting at $1.95.

We had cupcakes at our reception.  We went with Ele Cake Co. in West Carrollton, OH.  The most expensive one was $1.35.  They have a variety of cake flavors and buttercream flavors, which all determine the price.  There was a $150 deposit for the stand, which was refundable upon return of it being undamaged.  We ordered more cupcakes than people but ended up having a bunch leftover.  Nobody took the "basic" flavors, all went for the specialty!

I agree with MattsPenguin about ordering extra.  I have been to 2 weddings where they served cupcakes and both have run out.  People just start grabbing a plate full and before you know it, they are gone.  Very frustrating.  This is the main reason we are NOT doing cupcakes.  There is no way of putting a limit on them.

I am glad I am not the only one looking into this option.  I was attempting to avoid the extra cake cutting and plating costs venues charge. I wonder if it ends up being an equal trade off.
