Hello knotties! I appreciate everyone's posts, it's been very helpful. Is anyone using a wedding planner? Any recommendations?

My friend Denise owns Clink events, and I have been to several of her events. They Rock!! If I could afford a planner at all, it would be Denise.

Unless you are planning a big budget wedding, I would not go to Clink events. They charge you the same prices for a small wedding as they would if you had a big wedding but assign someone to you who is  at the level of an intern-- who knows nothing about what is included in their packages. IThey nickel and dime you. a $2500 basic package with them does not include vendor recommendations! I personally think vendor recommendations should be standard, but whatever. My budget is $30k and they made me feel like a loser.

There is a new one in town called Austin Social Butterfly. I have not decided if I am going to use a coordinator yet, but a cousin used her and loved the experience. The good part of "new" is cheap - you might want to do an inquiry.

Halahh, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with Clink! I am using them on a budget similar to yours, and I have nothing but good things to say.

When I looked at their portfolio I knew that my budget wouldn't be as large as many of their weddings, but Gina assured me that we could put together a fantastic wedding.  Even though they were the most expensive company that I had looked at, I decided to move forward with them because:

    1. Gina was the most experienced planner I had interviewed,
    2. they had done a lot of weddings at my venue,
    3. they are one of the largest event planning companies in town, so the vendors will not only be working to impress me, they'd also be working to impress Clink who handles so many of the weddings & corporate events in town, and
    4. she offered a lot of cost-cutting ideas during the first complimentary meeting so I knew she wasn't full of it when she said that they'd be able to work within my budget.

Also she is the most responsive person I have ever worked with.  I think that's something you can expect from any planner, but I seriously get responses back in 5 minutes even at 11:30pm!

We are using Rachel Stepanov at Buon Affare events as our day of coordinator and she is helping us with design focus as well!  She has been extremely helpful and is very affordable, too :)

I second Rachel Stepanov with Buon Affare events. She is our coordinator and I absolutely love her and have been super impressed. And she's affordable. I honestly don't know what I would do without her.

Here's another vote for Rachel Stepanov - if you want to know what she's like, check out my detailed review on YELP.  In brief, she's incredible at organizing what would otherwise have been chaos.  Can't say enough good things about her!  Set up a meeting and judge for yourself...

We're using Stephanie with Your Wedding, Your Way.  Her prices are way low and every person I talked to just raved about her.  So far we're really happy with her.  www.ywywaustin.com
