I am a Roman Catholic, my fiance and I had originally been planning a destination wedding (that would take place in a church somewhere in a tropical setting). Due to budgetary restraints and what-not, we decided to plan something more local to where I grew up. We have a priest lined up, and he is a close family friend. We were all set to get married at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in South/Central IL. We even booked the day, and they gave us the info necessary for our priest to get the paperwork started. He just called and informed me that the local dioscese will NOT allow any Catholic weddings there, as it is not a "recognized" parish. Needless to say, we are back at square one. We really have our hearts set on the date we picked already (9/3/11) because his family will all be traveling in, and I've been to so many of the same weddings back at my home parish, that I just don't have any desire to follow suit. We have no idea where we can book a church at this point. Has anyone run into the same issues with the Shrine, or been in a similar situation? Anyone have any suggestions for a fabulous church in the Southern IL/St. Louis area?!?!
