Silver Swan

Hi all,
We were looking at Silver Swan Bayside on Kent Island. I really fell in love, but didn't know if anyone could give me some feed back about this location. Thank you for your help :)

I'm booked for Silver Swan in 2011.  Since I'm so far out, I haven't needed to do much with them as of yet.  They have been very accommodating so far.

Sorry for the late reply...life got in the way!
We're getting married July 2011.  I have some logistical workflow items to work out with them, but I don't envision any issues.  Free valet parking was a nice perk, but I think I'll be providing transportation for everyone to get there, since crossing the Bay Bridge can be a beast during a summer weekend!

I am still waiting on a reply from them on my proposal. I want this place to work out because it is everything we wanted. Transportation for your guests would be very nice. Are they staying on the other side of the bridge?

Honestly, I visited Silver Swan 2 weeks ago as a possible wedding venue and thought it was completely over priced for how small it is. The view for the ceremony is absolutely beautiful but I don't see any sort of perks to spending that much money when it costs almost as much as the Bay Beach Club. Not to mention it is impossible to find. The GPS took us to a completely different neighborhood! Which is the last thing I want, is for all my guests to get lost and be late to the wedding. My FH and I just thought it was tacky, especially the "Bridal Boat".

Uptown Catering just recently opened up a new site in Pasadena up the street from their Celebrations at the Bay site. It's called The Anchor Inn. If you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere directly on the water where you can even arrive and depart on a boat, for half the price and amazing food, I would check them out.

We looked at Silver Swan back in the winter of 2010 right after the big winter storm.  It had everything we were looking for and we instantly fell in love with it.

However, it was just not worth the headache dealing with them.  They are terrible at responding back to you and they even double book your date to save "in pencil".  We were etched in for a particular date and when we were ready to book, they had already given up our date to another couple.  So, then we considered our alternative date(s).  But, it was always a headache trying to get a response from the lady working there, Taylor.

It was such a headache trying to wait for responses that even though the place was everything we were looking for, it just wasn't worth it.  If we were having issues prior, I couldn't have imagined having been booked and dealing with the annoyances. It just wasn't worth it.

    Hope that helps.

Yup, we didn't go with them because they were not able to follow through and it was not worth all the money they wanted.

Hi, I'm looking at that place tomorrow for 2011 too...can someone tell me what "too expensive for the size" means?  I am overwhelmed with how expensive every venue seems to be!  Thanks for the tip on Anchor Inn, I'll check it out

I started out loving silver swan, but the people running it would not follow through. It was everything I wanted, but when I asked for a proposal it took awhile for them to get to me and then I wanted the proposal change and they never did, so we decided that it was not work all the trouble. We decided to go with Herrignton on the bay. Hope this helps you!

I am really surprised to hear about the staff not following through. I just shot a wedding there this past weekend & they did an amazing job! They made sure we stayed on schedule and the food was AMAZING!

PS. I also shot a wedding at Herrington on the Bay in May & it was really nice also. The only downfall was not having a place for everyone to get ready on the wedding day

I am surprised to hear some of the negative reactions to this venue.  My FI and I fell in love with this AFTER looking at all of the other typical eastern shore waterfront venues (CBBC, KMI, etc)  It is on the smaller side, but we liked the more intimate feel (it is not tiny by any means-we're having 100ppl), we feel that it better fits our pesonality.  Taylor has been great to work with so far.  We originally booked for April 2011.  Unfortunately, I found out that my dad is going to be laid off in the next year or so (dramatically impacting the wedding funding).  When we called Taylor, she switched our reservation to a date in 2012 no problem.  She has also been very flexible with our deposit.

I am curious now to see how the rest of our planning process goes with them , since we are still so far out.  We have had no issues so far.  I also have a friend who got married there last summer and he had nothing but good things to say about them.  I'd say if you are interested, definitely meet with them.

Hello all...We are booked for Sept 2011 and Amelia has been WONDERFUL to deal with so far.  We met the chef and they all have been super accomodating....I absolutely fell in love with the location and the views on the water.  Being from pasadena, I've been to Kurtz's beach and Celebrations on the bay and unfortunately, you get the 'industrial' views of baltimore/dundalk area across the bay - Silver Swan has nothing but the bay bridge and wonderful bay views.  I obviously have not made tons of plans yet as we are still a year out but thus far, things have gone great!

We are booked there for May 2011! I was looking for an intimate and out of the ordinary venue. We found it at Silver Swan! We looked at all of the typical sites-CBBC,Inn at Perry Cabin, Hyatt Reg, etc. They were all nice, but an average and boring site is not what we wanted. A few of the great perks of Silver Swan is they will make your day the way YOU want it, you can pick the food YOU want to be served, and there are no other weddings going on with brides running around or other chaos. Taylor has been wonderful and has calmed this brides nerves ;)

I just recently called inquiring about prices. I asked for an email listing all the information so i dont have to constantly call for questions. Also planning for July 2011, i was told renting the venue was 150 per person.. not sure if thats good or bad sense i just started my search 2 weeks ago. the knot website has helped with the dollars signs for venues but unfortunately silver swan is not located on the venue list. Great discussion board, I am happy i am not the only one with questions about Silver swan..  thanks KKerr02 good info

    Two words: Run away!

We just got married there and it was awful. It was gorgeous, but the staff killed us. Taylor has this ability to make some people love her, and others are wary. Either way, she will make you regret all the little and not-so-little things she does (or doesn't). Read our full review with all the gory awful details of our wedding problems with this place: http://www.weddingmapper.com/plan_wedding/md/stevensville/0czad8

I just warn this, keep Taylor under your thumb. We sent an e-mail to the property owner asking that this women be fired for her incompetency. Good luck for all those booked there.

I am the mother of the bride who's daughter just got married at Silver Swan on October 9, 2010. I wanted to give you all my input.  Taylor was very slow to respond to e-mails. This was during their recent renovations. We were fine with the price. We had a sit down dinner and open bar and passed around appetizers.
The actual day of the wedding was almost perfect with the exception of a shuttle not picking up a group of people waiting and that included the father of the bride.(Do not use Extraordinare Limousine) The ceremony started late but Taylor kept me calm by putting me and the grooms parents in a cool place with some wine. The ceremony, weather, staff and reception were fantastic. Everyone raved about it all.
Then 5 days later, we discovered that people had become ill. Out of 160 guests, 37 got sick. The health department is currently investigating. We do not know the cause yet. It might be virus related. I am not saying the venue is at fault at all. Nothing has been proven. I hope it turns out to be a virus and not food poisoning although all of the food from our wedding was long gone when the health departement got there.
Other than that, if you call Taylor versus e-mailing her you will be fine. The setting is perfect.

I recently used the Silver Swan to Cater my wedding.  The venue was a bit to  small for me on the inside.  Although I knew that I would plan to be married outside, taking the chances of rain I knew that there would be a possibility of having to have it inside.  I decided to have my wedding in my parents and my back yard. We live next door to each other and on the water so the setting was perfect.  When Taylor from the Silver Swan mentioned that they would also do off site catering I knew that I should probably try them out.  My parents, fiance and I all went to the food tasting and it was amazing.  We all have expensive palates so knowing the food would be half this good made our decision easy.  I didn't want my guests to walk away unhappy with the food as people most often do at weddings, so this was important in our decision making.  Well the day of the wedding we had very high expectations and so did our guests, as we had raved about how good the food was going to be.  Well our expectations were more then met.  The food was amazing and Taylor even packed us up two extra plates to eat later together.  I couldn't wait to eat it again!  Our guests complimented us over and over on how great the food was.  I wish they had a resturant cause I would make the trip over the bridge just to enjoy the food.

I highly recommend using the Silver Swan.  And as for Taylor not being responsive, she is working with BRIDES.  I am sure she gets back as soon as she can and can only handle so many brides in one day.  Be patient with her and I promise the return will be well worth it!

Taylor is the best! Never had any issues getting a hold of her. I agree with the above bride and that Taylor is working with multiple brides. If you wanted a personal wedding planner you should of hired one. I was married April 2010 and it was amazing! I 100% recommend Taylor and her phenomenal team!

Taylor no longer works at SSB - and neither does the chef!
