When to buy the Dress and tattoo covering.

Hi Ladies,

I am not getting married until next Oct 2013 and I was wondering when do you buy the dress.  I would like to lose about 40-50lbs and tone up.  What is a good time frame. Also,  I have a tattoo on my back and I found a dress that I love, that is open back.  I don't really want the tattoo to show.  Does anyone know of any good coverups for them.

Thanks Casey

Kat Von D makes a good cover up. You have lots of time to loose the weight you want. I ordered my dress 8 months before my wedding, it came in two months later and my steamstress is going to start altering it next week, my wedding is in May.

  • I ordered my dress 7 months before our wedding. I would lose most (all) of the weight before ordering the dress. Some girls can order a dress at a smaller size and make it work, but I wouldn't recommend it since I've heard some pretty bad sob stories where that didn't work out.

I would definitely wait until you've lost the weight. You've got plenty of time! Also, most of the dresses you see now will still be available then, PLUS the 2013 lines. You'll definitely benefit by waiting :)
  • I ordered my dress 9 months before the wedding.  they said it would take 6-7 months to get in (it only ended up being 1 - they told me it was a record).  if I were you though, I'd wait until you lose most of the weight you a planning to.  You can never predict how it will go....you might lost less than you anticipated or more if you work extra hard and it would suck to have ordered the completely wrong size dress.  (either that or get a corset back for easy adjustments if you weight fluctuates)!

    Good luck!

Like the other brides have said, "I would wait until you lose some of the weight".
I wanted to lose 15 to 20 lbs before our wedding and I have only lost 5.  When we I went dress shopping I ended up finding an off the rack dress, that the sales lady picked for me, fit perfectly and I was able to take home then. Talk to the sales/people or seamstress and explain that you are trying to lose weight. My dress has a corrsett lace up the back so I have a little room should I continue to lose more. I'm not planning on gaining. :')
  • I ordered my dress 7 months before with the plan to lose some weight. I had my first alteration appointment last night and am already down one size. I go back in one month for my second fitting and finally the last fitting 2 weeks before the wedding date (5/21). The seamstress knows I am trying to lose more and has assured me they will be able to continue taking it in as needed.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks everyone for the feedbck, I really appreciate it.  I will take all of your advice and wait.  :)
