Hotel Block help

Hi everyone!  So I was thnking about doing a hotel block at a hotel in the area for my wedding night since there are a few people coming from out of town.  How exactly does this work?  Do you have to guarantee them a certain amount of people?  Do they give you a discount?  Any info will help! TIA

I researched a few hotels in the area to see what their nightly rates were.  I then called each hotel and spoke to the group reservation representative/manager.  They'll tell you the minimum and maximum amount of rooms their hotel allows to block, the costs of different rooms, when the cut off date will be set at and how many rooms you'll need to have booked to get your bridal suite for free.  Take note, because I didn't know this, NEGOTIATE the room rates with them!  Also, find out if breakfast is included and if the staff will deliver out of town bags for you.  Good luck.

hi there... When you're doing a room block, they will ask you for the number of rooms you will need (estimated), how many nights, etc.  They will give you a booking code for your guests to use when they reserve their room.  The booking code will allow your guests to reserve the room at whatever discounted price the hotel gave you.

Just make sure that you let your guests know if there is a cut off date.  My hotels have 2 of them. the first date they release half of the rooms, and the second date they release all of them.

    hope that helps!!

be sure to meet with someone from the hotel before booking as well, and make sure to see the rooms. especially if you're not that familiar with the hotel.

we booked a set of rooms at the crowne plaza, they were great there and super helpful.

I agree- take a site visit before you book the hotel block. Some of the hotels I liked on the website and wasn't very impressed with when I got there.

Also- if you are interested in it, ask how they handle OOT bags- do they charge per bag? As about little extras, do they include breakfast? Do they provide shuttle service (what times they offer this service?) Parking charges?

    Good luck!

We just went Sunday to look at a couple. See if they throw in a room for you too, even if you don't need it - maybe you can give it to the in-laws or something who knows? All the PP's had great tips too
