weight loss dilemma

So here's my dilemma...
My wedding isn't until May 18 of next year and since this past Dec, I have lost about 35 pounds. The problem? I went wedding dress shopping about a month ago and found the perfect dress. Since it's custom made, they told me it could take up to 6-9 months for it to come in, so I went ahead and ordered it. I have only lost a couple more pounds since then, but kind of want to lose about 20 more so I can reach my ultimate goal weight. I know it's easier for the seamstress to take a dress in than letting it out, I just don't want it to change the look of the dress or anything. I'm probably just worried over nothing, but what do you think about me going ahead and  trying to lose the last 20 pounds? Does anyone have any experiences with losing weight after purchasing your dress?
Thanks ladies!

Re: weight loss dilemma

  • I've already purchased my dress and have lost weight since - I trust that whatever seamstress I go to will be able to help fix any issues that arise from the weight loss.

Honestly though, if it comes down to it, losing weight for me is more important than the dress. When I go to do fittings, if they tell me I've lost too much and they can't change the dress to fit me, I will just buy a new one (seems highly unlikely because I haven't lost THAT much).

Seriously, don't worry about it, especially if you haven't talked to a seamstress yet :)

I spoke to the salon I bought my dress from with the same fear. They told me each dress is different and some you can take in up to 4 sizes (like 50lbs!) and it would look fine with a good seamstress and some you can only take in a size or two (like 10-20lbs). So I think you will be fine, but def talk to the place you bought it from and a seamstress to put your mind at ease.

  • My dress is a corset back, so I'm basically hoping that if I lose weight, all I have to do is lace it tighter.

  • Mine is a corset back as well, which is another reason I know I shouldn't be too worried about it. I guess I just needed more people to tell me it should be fine! lol Thanks guys!! And kwitherington, I would love it if you would report back and let me know how the fitting goes! Smile
