Trying to figure out where to live around Boston

When I graduate I will probably get a job at one of the major hospitals in Boston. I don't really know much about the area neighborhoods. As of right now I am looking into Arlington, Brookline, and Newton. I don't mind a commute of a total of one hour each way on public transportation. We would also like somewhere that is family friendly with some green space. Any suggestions and info would be much appreciated. TIA!

    FI's best man, and roommate, works at Children's Hospital.  They live in Cleveland Circle, which is a stones throw away from Brookline, but much less expensive.  Brookline tends to be very expensive, as is Newton.  I don't have any experience with Arlington.  I would say Brookline (and throwing Cleveland Circle in that) is very close to the T, more so than Newton.  I't only a 20 or so minute trip from the T to Children's from there - although  if there was no wait for the T that time would be much shorter.  Just another option for you :)

    Depends on your budget and if you want to rent/buy. With a smaller budget you can get a fantastic place in Medford or Somerville that has a back yard and is close to transportation.

    If you don't mind s commute I'd say Medford, Arlington or Somerville are your best bets. They are more affordable than Brookline or Newton but very close to the city.

    My FI is from Newton and his parents just sold their house because the taxes went up to 10K!  They just built a 100 million dollar high school or something like that, lol.  I dont know your financial situation, but if you are looking to spend inder 400K then you wont get much in those towns and taxes are high.  Woburn is right next to Arlington and the west side of Woburn borders arlington and lexington.  Its a nice town and taxes are low.  I just bought in Woburn in August and I love it.  I grew up here!

    I grew up in Arlington and its a great town, certainly more "suburban".  The public transportation is a plus, and from what I have heard there are a lot of younger couples moving in.

    I went to college in Medford and love the surrounding towns, Arlington, Belmont, even Somerville has some quaint areas. Also, towns like Walpole and Foxboro are great. There are commuter rail stations very close by with 20-40 min commute, a lot of young people buy starter homes, and you are near Gillette stadium/patriot place.
