Getting in Shape

Workout Accountability: Friday

Good Morning and TGIF!

Exercise didn't go as planned because my yoga dvd was acting up - so it turned out into a 'little bit of this, little bit of that' workout between my own cardio and then some of the yoga balance and floor work.

As for today and the weekend...
Today is a rest day and a tough one not to go over calories as we're planning on going to the Phillies game tonight (rain pending.)  At least I always offer to DD because it automatically helps cut down a bunch of calories, but the soft pretzels...yum.
Tomorrow is a wine tasting (again, weather pending) and then I promised FI we'd go see Batman.  Tomorrow also starts day one of phase three - eep!

How are you all doing, and what's on tap for the weekend?
Anniversary

Re: Workout Accountability: Friday

  • Morning!  Work has turned into my workout, cleaning houses takes a lot of energy :/  Came home a little sore yesterday from some ill fitting equipment and a few nasty bruises, I'm glad it's Friday.  I can see this is one of those jobs I'm going to have to force myself to go to every day until something else comes along. I don't mind the physical aspects of it, it's the dealing with rediculously nit-picky people and having to clean up their crap ;p Didn't weigh in this morning, puppy (named Nola) had a bit of an accident last night in her pen and I had to get dressed and get her outside pronto, once I'm dressed I don't like to have to undress to weigh in then redress again ;p  Tomorrow I'll weigh in and measure, see what's what. Don't think I have anything planned for the weekend other than working on the house. And now, breakfast!

  • I did a little bit of weight work at home yesterday, as there wasn't a lot of time.  Eating went pretty well so that makes me happy.  I had my first fitting and the seamstress was a genius because she is lowering the back of my dress so it doesn't hit so high and cause the back roll issues.  I was so happy!

  • Despite the news from dad yesterday, didn't go into a crazy binge.  In fact quite the opposite.  Stayed the planned course of action for food, hubby and I had our own indoor BBQ, baked BBQ chicken, pasta salad and pickled beets, nothing says summber quite like that.  And we talked about rings, FOR HOURS.  He's having the hardest time deciding what he wants.

And this morning woke up for the 30DS this morning.  Thinking of taking a break from bootcamp tonight and using tomorrow as my rest day.  Thank god!

  • Last night was a friend's birthday and he had a wine dinner party. So there's that. This morning was shoulders and and and a 2 mile run. Today is my Monday so I'll be working all weekend. Tomorrow is our final weigh in from the 6 week challenge. Looks like I'll wind up around a total of ten pounds lost. Of course I'm PMSing right now so it may be a little bit more in actuality.
  • Morning guys,

Im feeling much less grumpy today than I was yesterday...wow that was bad!
Last night FI and I went to our first pick up baseball game..we had loads of fun!
I have not played since I was a kid (same with FI) so my goals were to catch a ball and make contact with the bat and hopefully not break or bruise any part of me....Success across the board.

This weekend FI and I do not have plans (first time in ages!) so we are going to spend our time sleeping and throwing a ball around for practise.

One other thing: :last night we saw a lot of friends that we havn't seen in ages who were blown away at how trim Fi and I are since the last time they saw us. It was almost embarrassing because they kept complimenting us. Its great motivation to keep going :)

Morning! I decided to take today off since I'm running in the 5k tomorrow morning. I thought I better give my body a rest before the race. Ah I'm nervous!

p.s. does anyone find themselves always getting super hungry around that time of the month? I am freaking starving! ugh!

  • Good morning!

Yesterday I attempted a walk with co-workers, but it was the first day in over 5 weeks that it rained here. We did one lap in the rain, but then everyone was soaked and wanted to go back in.

Didn't end up going to the ballgame yesterday because of the rain, and instead we went out to dinner with our friend, which of course wasn't the healthiest thing to do.

I'm disappointed in my lack of activity yesterday, and I think today is going to be much the same because I'm travelling to Detroit again.

I think instead of taking a full lunch hour I might quickly grab a bite to eat and then do a few laps around the building, just to get SOME activity!

  • mari - I posted on that the other day :)  There is some research indicating that we actually burn more calories leading up to that time of the month, but specific levels and timing depend on the person.  I let myself eat an extra 100 calories or so for three days before my 'time' this month, and I didn't gain anything and it really helped with the abnormal hunger levels.

  • Mari--Yes, I'm often super hungry the week before.  But usually by the end of the following week my weight and appetite are fine.  Thankfully!

  • Not sure what to do for a workout today. Will figure it out by the time I get to the gym. Tonight a friend is coming over after work to help with some crafty projects for the wedding. Tomorrow FI and I have our weekly hike planned this one is 4 miles and about 1500 ft elevation gain. We have a few final details to finish for the wedding this weekend and then we are in the home stretch. I head to NYC on Monday so need to finish everything this weekend.

  • I'm proud of myself because I actually did something yesterday :)  I ran 3 miles.  That's funny to me since I used to run very long runs and would have zero issue... 3 seemed like it was about 16 miles.  My time was actually still pretty great so that was good, it just didn't "feel" good.  My eating was also good and I felt a bit better belly-wise yesterday after not starting out the day with dairy, and same for today.

I have a migraine and I'm dying for some coffee to help it.  I can't drink coffee without skim milk so I'm just trying to deal with it by medicating myself every 4-6 hours lol.

    Morning Ladies :)

Wow you guys all sound to be doing so great!

Question: How many calories am I supposed to be eating once I start working out?  I have been eating ~1200.  One of my coworkers told me that once you start working out you need to add however many calories you will be burning to accomodate your body so it has that 1200 in your system otherwise your body will go into startvation mode. i.e. burn 600 calories by walking that day you should be eating 1800 calories....  Idk she confused me and I start my workout routine Tuesday and I don't want to go backwards!

Today is spent still with my niece and nephew.  Yesterday we were going to go to the zoo to get out and move but my FI got home to late so we went to a waterfall instead!  The kids went swiming and we walked up and down 350 steps! I figure its better than nothing!  Tonight we will take them to the zoo so that will be extra walking and lifting (they have to see the animals somehow!)

Then this weekend is my last days off before I go back to work (school social worker) so I am super anxious and I just have to make sure not to turn to food, my OLD comfort.  I looked hard for a new job this past summer but it didn't happen so now I am going back to stress.  I am hoping to turn exercising into a stress relief thing b/c when I work I get so stressed I get sick.  Dreading it!

Oh! I almost forgot! Sorry... I know mine get kinda long!
    Weigh in!
    7/13/12 -- 212 lbs
    7/20/12 -- 206 lbs!  SUPER EXCITED!
  • Helleb, that is essentially correct, because otherwise your net (in your example) would be 600 calories.  Your body would be starving on that count.  Use MFP, it will help you keep track of what to eat back.

  • @ Mari - I am always hungry the few days before my period visits! I'm sitting there uncontrollably hungry and munchy, with no idea of what's going on, and then a few days later comes my period - then all of a suddens it's like *Lightbulb* ! I agree with eating 100-150 extra calories those days to just allow you to stay sane. Also, GOOD LUCK on your 5K tomorrow! You'll be great!

Today I'm heading into work for an earlier shift than my usual, so that kind of throws my day off a little but it will be fine. We have my mom's birthday supper tonight after work so perhaps just snacking at lunch to the point where I'm not hungry anymore will allow me to eat a slice of the cake I made for her! Luckily she likes it with no icing, so that helps cut down the cals!

Went on a 2 mile run last night around 9:40, and it felt great. It was the best temperature outside, and I was able to run faster than I usually do so that felt good too! Woot! Happy weekend everyone!

  • I did pretty well yesterday although I went over my goal a little. FI's grandparents like to meet us at the Texas Roadhouse for dinner as it is one of the only places his tiny little grandmother will eat anything at all. Can't really argue with that, but it's not exactly known for it's healthy food. I did alot better than before MFP though. Before I would have 2-3 rolls with my meal and sometimes part of a cheesefry appetizer. Now I am down to 1 roll. Considering they are over 200calories each, I was probably sitting down to 500 calories in just rolls before signing up for MFP!

Weighed in an extra time this week and still have those extra mystery 2lbs hanging around. I did just get my period though, so I am hoping by next week I will head back in the right direction if I don't blow it at parties this weekend...

I don't know why you can't have dairy but I'm lactose intolerant.  Have you thought about trying almond milk?  For a glass of unsweetened almond milk it is 60 calories.  I use the vanilla flavor for my cereal and it is amazing.  Not exactly the same consistancy but it is much better than forgoing the things I love.

  • So, the past two days have been rest days but not by choice. I wasn't able to exercise due to wedding appts (dress fitting and picking up rings) and today is kind of crappy outside. I will try to atleast walk after work today and if its not downpouring I'll swim. We really need the rain though so I'm def not complaining.

Souptin- Congrats on all the compliments! Sometimes it gets weird to hear it all, but you worked hard for the recognition, enjoy it girl!

Mari- Good luck tomorrow at your race!! :)

This weekend will be a big workout weekend with lots of swimming and yardwork. We don't have anything planned as far as BBQ's or anything, so I'll take advantage of that and eat healthy and swim my butt off! I hope everyone has a great weekend!
  • Happy Friday everyone!

I took the pup on a quick run this morning since I am now in the middle of a 3 hour teleconference (so awful!) and it's a very busy work day. We did just under a mile and a half but it just wasn't feeling like a great run today though our pace is getting faster - just under an 11 minute mile today but with a puggle that's pretty quick and I am always paranoid about her getting overheated.

I'd like to go lift weights later this afternoon as well and again tomorrow. Sunday my aunt will be visiting us so I may try to fit in a quick run in the morning.

Yesterday the dog and I went on a 4 mile excursion through Rock Creek park, it took over an hour but it was still good to get off my recently lazy booty! I may have gotten my motivation back finally! :)

<div>I have had almond milk in the past but I never go through enough of it to consider buying it.  I always end up throwing it out.  Also, I'm not a coffee drinker at all unless I'm incredibly tired or on the occasion that I get a headache.  I just had regular tea and though not as strong as coffee I think it did the trick.</div>
  • @lbarr have you ever tried any of the Silk creamers? They are Dairy free, made with Soy. I use them for my coffee because they have a lot less sugar in them. They come in a smaller container than the almond milk so you do'nt have to worry as much about it going bad.

  • Maribeth, I haven't!  I should look into them and maybe keep something at work for when I do go and get coffee.  At the same time though I might drink coffee 1x per week, but usually maybe only a couple times a month.  It's weird though because I can drink coffee from a local shop at home and it's the only one that I can have them make one of their specialty ones (cream, sugar, etc.) and I never get sick from it.  Weird.
  • Yesterday was a semi light day for me. I try and walk around the Nike campus track (under 2miles) every other day, so yesterday I just went to the gym and walked a half an hour on the gym with some light weight lifting. That was around 5ish in the evening. Around midnight my guy got off work and we headed to the gym for our more serious work out. 5 minutes of stretches, 30 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes of weights and another 5 for stretching. My upper arms are a little sore from the weight lifting but all in all it was a good work out. Ate dinner an hour beforehand as well instead of after like we normally do; we're both night owls and stay up rather late. Just had one of my weight loss shakes afterwards instead and didn't feel as guilty lol. Tomorrow night should be interesting because we are picking up some friends from the airport around 1am and so we wont have enough time to do our usual workout. So I may just have to workout earlier in the day and walk around the airport.
