Illuminated escort cards

I have an idea I am very excited about for escort cards. Illuminated votive candles wrapped with vellum and the names/table number of the guests. However, it is allowed at venues to have to have open flames in escort cards? I think it would look so nice to have the whole table illuminated and then I assume the guests will blow out the candle before carrying it around. Has anyone done this? Did your venue give you a hard time?

I can use the fake candles too, but I think the real candle light looks better.

Thanks!

That just sounds like you're looking for trouble. Not only is having that many open flames dangerous and probably not allowed, but people reaching over the flames could get burnt/something can catch on fire, when they pick it up to move it the hot wax could come out and go all over making a mess, including onto their dresses/suits- the candle will have to be lit for a while, and I just don't know it's such a great idea. Pretty, yes, but I think using battery operated or some other option will be much better.

I had the same idea, I was going to do it for my table numbers and escort cards but our venue would not allow it.
I tried a sample with the battery operated candles but did not like it as much so I nixed the idea.

Did you venue say it was a fire hazard? I am going to do it for table numbers and I am hoping thats OK since it will be a large glass vase so I dont think anyone will get burnt- plus there will be  regular votives on the table anyway. But I wasnt sure about the escort cards. The table numbers, if it isnt allowed, I may fill the vase with those little bead things florist use and a floralyte in my wedding colors. I think that would look nice too.  What did you end up using instead?

Yes, they said it was a fire hazard and would not allow anything involving an open flame and paper, regardless of the size of the glass vase.  They don't care about regular votives because they actually provide those for us.

I am just going to go with the regular tented table numbers in my colors.  I figured it would be the best way to go.  I wanted something really creative but now I am running out of time.

This was a big trend a few years back.  I'd ask your venue.  Could look really cool if they'll allow it.  I don't see how it is so different from having votives on the tables where people will be eating and drinking heavily all night?

If you google votive escort card you'll see lots of examples.

But as Allie points out, it may not be as simple as it sounds.  Beyond any hazards she mentioned, they may not work well practically -- some may blow out before people even enter the room, and more and more may blow out as people reach over to grab theirs.... so it may not have the effect you want.

I really like this idea. But I think for fire hazard and all the other points made, the battery operated lights would work the best. If you didn't like the regular ones what about lights that florist use in your wedding colors. I think that would be pretty and make it more in line with your wedding.

I am doing this but my venue axed them being lit.  So i made a cute poem asking everyone to bring the candle to their table where I will have matches for them to light up our reception and send a prayer of happiness and love when they light them. I had already made all of my candles before my venue decided they didnt want them lit.
