Is there still some time?

To get my body looking a little thinner/trimmer/more toned?! I hate my stomach and my arms need work.

I've been trying to watch what I eat, but I'm feeling like there's no time left to get into some type of better shape, so I give up and start eating chocolate! ugh

I have a gym membership and I haven't gone in months. I feel like by the time I get home, I'm wiped out and just want to eat dinner and lay on the couch.

Any thoughts/ideas on what I can cut out of my diet (besides the chocolate which I know I have to stop eating, that will actually be possible to do) or any sort of quick, workouts I can do either every day or every other day?

I love to walk, but I don't think thats going to do much for me in the next 3 weeks or so...

Re: Is there still some time?

  • try 30 day shred. i have been doing it the past month and have lost a good amount of inches. it's definitely a pita doing it everyday but it has been worth it!
  • -drink lots of water to get rid of any water weight (I realize this sounds like the opposite of what you should do, but really, it's not)
-try some toning exercizes. 8 minute abs, 8 minute arms, 8 minute legs, and 8 minute gluts are all available free on youtube
-focus on the positive - if you're happy on your wedding day, you'll be beautiful no matter what :)
    - don't do that stupid "20 pounds in 10 days" diet that was all over the news the other day, nothing is less sexy than a tube hanging out of your nose.
-up your fruits and vegetables, you'll have more energy and be more likely to go to the gym
-keep walking, it may not seem like much, but it's better than nothing!

  • I've heard good things about the 30 day shred. I'm just worried that I'll do it for a week and quit....ugh!

I guess I need to really focus and realize that if I don't do something now and commit to it, that I'll just end up mad at myself for not trying.

  • I tried the 30 day shred and it seems pretty good.  Because I have had a crazy schedule I try to do 15 mins of insanity at the minimum (awesome for toning), I also go to the gym and do other things when time allows.

For diet I use myfitnesspal and track my calories.  I would do that if I were you.  I put myself on a set diet sortative to make sure I eat enough/not too many calories.  So a few breakfast choices (eggs, smoothies, or bananna, puffed rice, and nuts), a few snacks a day (nuts, raisins, celery, carrots, apple, banana, rice cakes), salads for lunch, and dinner is whatever I make but generally healthy.

Join Kats accountability post and you can see what other people do.

But seriously I have been waiting to the month mark to really start toning, so don't feel like you are too late!  You can do it and we are all here for you!

  • It's never too late :) You might not be exactly where you'd like in 30 days, but if you work hard starting now you will definitely feel better about yourself come the wedding day.

I've been working with a trainer and here are a few tips from her. It's kind of obvious, but exercise is only half of the equation. You need to watch what you eat, which should help with your stomach. She told me to avoid cheese (ugh my favorite), full fat dairy products, fried foods, and peanut butter. She also said to eat throughout the day (small portions every few hours) to keep up my metabolism. Fruits, veggies, and lean proteins are key. Drink lots of water and cut down soda and alcohol.

Try to get in some exercise every day - anything is better than nothing. If you are worried about quitting a program try to think of simple things you can do from home like walking or running outdoors, jumping jacks, jumping rope, lunges and squats. To target your arms try bench dips and pushups. Always take the time to stretch before and after you do anything to avoid soreness.

    Good luck!!

  • I'm in the same boat as you. Do you have weights at home? I've been doing stuff in front of the tv like sit ups, crunches, lunges, and some stuff with weights. Next week I will be back at Zumba and bootcamp. I'm also adding 30 day shred back in.  We could work out together if we lived close enough!

i'm going to second (3rd, 4th?) the 30 day shred!  you just have to find the motivation, but it's not too late.  it's only 20ish minutes, so i used to get up 30 minutes early and do it before work.

also, try to focus on eating only lean protein, veggies and fruits!!!  eat higher proportions of veggies than meat.  try to avoid sugar, carbs (it's in EVERYTHING!!!  read the lables!!) and portion your dairy.  if you have to have carbs, go for complex carbs in the morning so your body can burn it off throughout the day.

carbs and dairy sometimes make people bloated without realizing that's what's causing it.  after i quit eating so many carbs i realized that was what was causing me to be so bloated.

    LOTS OF WATER!!!

and if you need chocolate (i completely understand this need) go for plain dark chocolate bars.  the higher percentage of cacao the lower the amount of sugar.  find a balance that you like. :)
  • I found keeping track of what I eat and amounts of excersize is helping (im like you I weighed myself 2 weeks ago and had gained 6 pounds when my weight has been stable for a year or so! So now I am in panic efforts to lose weight), I use loseit.com to keep track. Also I got zumba for the xbox....as geeky as it sounds its a good workout and I dont have to leave the house! Also park farther away from the store, take the stairs instead of the elevator etc....all these little tricks put together will help, it not lose weight at least keep it from going up. I know with showers and partys its hard to control what I eat every day, but its worth trying (even still! I lost 3 of those 6 lbs last week just by not being lazy about what I eat!)

  • I'm so excieted to hear great things about 30 day Shred. We're moving into a house next week, and I can't wait to set up a tv/mats in the basement.  I love cardio dvds, but in my apartment I always feel like I'm only putting in half the effort since I try to not jump too much and drive my downstairs neighbors crazy.

  • PP have a lot of great suggestions! And I agree that you should join Kat's accountability post!!!

Exercise: classes work really well for me because honestly at home I just wont do it, or half @$$ it.
Get your FI involved. We're not walking at least half an hour a day with the pup and we push each other when the other's feeling lazy.

Diet: Don't do anything extreme or you'll crash and burn!! Make little cuts like switching to fat free dairy instead of whole or reduced fat whole wheat instead of white, etc. Look at nutrition labels. You'll be surprised how small a portion is or how one brand can be a better choice. Allow yourself treats in moderation. If chocolate is your sin eat chocolate. Jello has some great fat free chocolate pudding cups if you think that will help your craving.

For me, my biggest challenge is not to stress too much about it. I've noticed lately that stress has been having an effect on my body. Not to mention that when I'm stressed is when I tend to make terrible food choices!

  • Thank you ladies!

I'm going to be more aware of everything I'm putting in my mouth and my hope is that I'll take a minute and say "am i really hungry and is this the best food option" before eating anything.

I'm a lifetime Weight Watchers member, so I "know" how to eat, I just have a hard time resisting temptation and I usually end up in some type of food rut after a few weeks.

I'm also going to see if I can get the 30 day shred asap and also start walking 30 minutes a day.

  • 30 day shred is good.. so is Ripped in 30 (very similar!)

Tiffany Rothe workouts on youtube are awesome for arms! I usually do a few of her videos after I finished ripped in 30.. and my arms definitely feel lit! She has lots of bicep/tricep/arm fat stuff, and she's fun too! :)

  • It sounds extreme but it is working for me. I did it because I have diabetes and my blood sugar isn't happy any other way but.....no grains at all. No wheat, corn, rice, quinoa, buckwheat, etc.

The pounds are melting away (seriously, 3lbs in the last 3 days).

I need to pick up that 30 day shred. I've always heard good things and I'd love to get waist a little smaller and my arms a little nicer before wearing that halter neck gown.
