I'm sad .

I found out this morning that a friend of mine, a woman who used to help me run a moms group in the city, is preparing her own funeral. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago and fought so hard to beat it. Unfortunately, the cancer has spread to her brain and the hope is gone. It is so heartbreaking. She is a young woman, just a couple years older than myself, with 2 young children around my son's age. She is such a wonderful person; she has raised a tremendous amount of money for breast cancer research and even started a non-profit organization in Ottawa called The Breast Dress Project where brides donate their gowns for resale/donation to research. She throws a huge gala every year called "Something White for Something Right" where everyone wears their wedding gowns or a white dress and of course, all profit goes to research. She is truly an inspiration and it breaks my heart to see her suffer. In December she asked friends to write little notes/letters about her to add to her memoirs for her children. This month she can't even read them because her sight is fading due to the cancer.
Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Re: I'm sad .

  • I just put my makeup on and now its all over my face.  That just killed me.  I'm sorry your sad.  I have lost so many people to cancer and it scares me everyday, that FI is in remission.

I hope she keeps fighting for her children.  I also hope that she has the option to come to the states for doctors too.  Boston, has some amazing cancer doctors.  FI's mom was diagnosed 28 years ago and is still kicking.  Its been rough but she was only given 6 months in the beginning.
  • That brought tears to my eyes and she will definitely be in my prayers. I am in remission myself, Ovarian, and belong to a woman's cancer support group here based out of our church. If you don't mind me sharing her story, I know they will all pray for her and her family as well.
  • I'm sorry, this is incredibly sad.  It seems like there has been a lot of sickness/death going around the boards.  T&Ps

That would be wonderful Britt. She could use all the prayers she can get; and she deserves them all!

It scares me so much... I feel like cancer surrounds us and it lurks just waiting for its next victim. I try not to let it get me down but it's a reality so many people face.

  • That is so incredibly heartbreaking. I have also lost many to cancer and its such a terrible disease that has taken so many wonderful people. My FSIL works as a clinical trial associate and they do mostly testing of cancer drugs. She is the only one who gives me hope for a future cure because they are doing some amazing work at her lab. Will be keeping you, her and her family in my thoughts!

  • So sad.  I lost a friend in 2009 to breast cancer.  She was 29.

I've been getting so angry with people on facebook lately when they post the "I'm going to Alaska for 25 months" and "I'm 6 weeks and craving cheerios" I actually posted something about how much I hate those and I don't care if I ruin your game, delete me if you want.  They do nothing to raise awareness!

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • Mama, I'm SO sorry you're going through this. I will absolutely keep you and your friend in my prayers and thoughts! <3

  • That is such a shame. Cancer in general is terrible, but it always seems worse the younger the victim is. I'm so sorry :-(
