September 2012 Weddings

rehearsal dinner

are invitations necessary for the rehearsal dinner? it's only just the people in the wedding party, which, on my side, is all my siblings and one friend. can i just tell them? they all already know about the rehearsal and knew there was going to be a party. haha..i'm just trying to cut back on things that are only bound to stress me out.

also, should we be inviting the significant others of the groomsmen? in my mind, this isn't a huge party..it's just a time we thank the wedding party and give them gifts, right?

I sent an email invitation.  My FMIL is hosting, and had no interest in sending invitations or doing any of that, so I took it in my hands to let people know they were invited and where they should be.

If they aren't local, I would definitely be inviting the significant others no matter what of every guest to the rehearsal dinner.  That would mean they'd be leaving the person alone in a hotel room, which sucks.  Even still, I'd invite them - it's a nice gesture.  I wouldn't invite my friend out to dinner with my FI and I without inviting her date, ya know?  They don't need casual dates, but if they have someone in their life, I think it's nice to invite them.

  • We sent them but it was FI's decision.  His parents are "hosting"...they gave us money and we've done all of the planning.  We asked for them to RSVP so the restaurant can set up the correct number of seats and be prepared with the correct number of apps.  We invited the wedding party, parents, minister, grandparents, soloist (my aunt) and our helper/guest book attendants.  We also invited everyone's significant other.  It came out to 40 people for our invite list.  Our invitation also had the time of the rehearsal and the address for both the church and restaurant with a map.  We used the rack cards from vistaprint to make them.  I think they have them free right now.  They fit in a regular envelope.

  • I know it may not seem like a big party, but I would invite the groomsmen's dates, especially if they have a girlfriend. I guess it might be different if they are just bringing a random friend as their date to the wedding, but being welcoming and inclusive is always the better route to go.
  • I just sent out an email invite to everyone to keep it simple.  Everyone knew about the rehearsal dinner and all.  I invited my bridal party with guests only if they have a significant other. I worded it in the email like "your signficant other is well" and just gave an RSVP date.

  • I'm not doing formal invites for the rehearsal dinner but we are inviting all of the significant others. The majority of our wedding party are from out of town so it seemed like the best idea for us.

  • My RD invites just came in the mail today actually. To be honest, the only reason I ordered them was because I had a groupon for VP so I figured why not. Otherwise I probably would've just told everyone since we have such a small party. My FFIL is hosting but like calindi, had no intention of doing the legwork for it so FI and I are doing it for him.

  • Ours is only going to be 16 people and most are imediate family so I just called people to tell them the info.
  • We made an e-vite so they have the time and address written somewhere that they can reference.  Also, we invited all dates.
  • You don't need to send invites...but I wanted to.  My FIL are throwing the event but I sent invites and had people RSVP to me. We invited both our parents, the wedding party, their significant others, and my cousin and her BF.  (my cousin is going to do a reading)
