A little help please

My FI and I just got engaged and are starting our wedding plans.  He's from NC and we now live in Wisconsin.  We are planning to have a beach wedding and are thinking about Wrightsville Beach.  Does anyone have any ideas on venues for ceremonies, receptions, etc.  Any info would be great.
Happy planning ladies and thanks for any help.

Kamie

I have a friend who got married at the Blockade Runner resort and it was very nice -- but I have a feeling it was pretty pricey.  That is my only experience with Wrightsville Beach.

Do you have an idea of your budget?  How many people will be invited? Indoor/outdoor?

We looked at Wrightsville, but decided on another beach in the area because the permit for getting married on Wrightsville is much larger than the other permits.

I can't totally  remember the name, but the Shell Resort (I think) is really nice, and they have a private beach area for ceremonys and an gorgeous oceanfront ballroom.

I suggest checking out the cape fear bride website, it has been like a bible to me in my planning process and has lots of resources in it.

I have stayed at the Blockade Runner a few times and it's really nice. They have weddings on their front grass lawn that overlooks the beach.  I was just there this weekend while a wedding was going on and everything looked nice set up. They also own a cottage that is next to the hotel that can sleep up to 26 people. My fiance and I had looked at having our wedding there and renting the cottage for family/ bridal party.  Their resturant East does the catering and when I have had dinner there it's been really good.

We also looked into Shell Island Resort and they offer packages that include ceremony space, reception space, catering, linens, flowers, and even your wedding cake.  We ultimatly decided to have our wedding in Durham though because it would be less money and easier logistically.  I still have some of the information send me a private message if you want me to send it to you.

If you are willing to go a little north. Topsail Island has 2 cute places.  We are getting married at the Surf City Center which is right on the beach.  The pictures don't do the place justice. It's really nice. It is a town owned building, you it is inexpensive and you can bring in any vendors you want.  There is also no permits required to get married on the beach.  The only negative (depending on your wedding) is that it's small. You really can't do more then 125 people.

The other place we looked at was the historic center on Topsail Island. It is on the intercoastal waterway with beautiful sunsets. We ended up going with teh Surf City Center becuase we really wanted to be on the ocean.

We are looking to at least have the ceremony outside on the beach.  We are thinking it's going to be a fairly large wedding about 150+ people.  We were also thinking Carolina Beach.  As you can tell we seem to be very undecided at this point and are looking for and suggestions or inputs that may help us in our decisions.

One thing about Carolina Beach is you cannot have any chairs, archways, decorations, nothing. We originally wanted CB too but once I found that out, I didn't want our ceremony to be plain, and I especially didn't want our guests to have to stand.

We are getting married at Kure Beach, but it's farther down, almost to the aquairum, in the Fort Fisher State Park (still on the beach) The permit was $35 and we can have all the decoration/chairs that we want. And there's a good deal of parking right there too so our guests won't have a long walk to the beach.

I second the Surf City Center. I just had my wedding there in May. It really is a great place although I only had 60 guests and with all our food tables, dj, dance floor, etc. it was a tight squeeze. I wouldn't recommend fitting 125 people.

Totally would recommend Ft. Fisher State Park Beach based on the wedding I just went to, but make sure you have some people to go put your chairs out in the morning and then watch them all day (or maybe people can take shifts, I mean, hey, it's the beach! Fun!) If you try to put them out in the afternoon there will be no space left due to beach-goers. :)

Also I love the idea of getting a beach house if it's a smaller reception, and getting married in front of it- no commute, gorgeous views... I kinda wish I had thought about that before we chose our venue (which I still love.) Good luck!
