RANT:Florists charging for consultation????

Just started my search for a florist and called up Gooden's Florist in Milford, DE (where my wedding will be). They said it would cost me $50 to consult with their florist about how much they'd charge me for my wedding!!!! How the **** am I supposed to go about choosing a reasonably priced florists if they charge THAT much to get a price quote???

Whoa. That's a red flag. I hear that from cake places, which makes sense because they'll have you taste cake, and then the price for the tasting goes to your final cost, but for a floral consultation??? That doesn't seem right.

I'm glad that you found a place that doesn't charge for consultation!

Ditto RA. If you are being charged for a consult, you need to walk away. I get the idea around it- they do spend a ton of time (over 3 hours for me) with you during the consult, and if they don't get your business that's time lost- but they shouldn't be charging you as a courtesy.

I used Belak's up here. They don't charge, and I think they deliver downstate (it would make sense, since they deliver into PA and NJ). I highly, highly recommend them- Barb was totally worth it.

I had never heard of it either until I was at some bridal shows and I had gotten cards saying "book your consultation, mention this ad and get (however much)% off your consultation fee".

Well, when Laura, the owner of Gooden's, returned my call today, I asked her about that $50 consultation fee. She said, yes, they charge it, but OH! if you go with them it goes towards the price of your flowers. I said, thanks, have a nice day and hung up.
