Reception cater help!

Does anyone know of a good caterer in the area? My wedding is this October at the McKinney Flour Mill so luckily I am allowed to hire any caterer. but I do not know of one. I would be most interested in quality service and someone who trows in the flatware, plates etc. I am on a tight budget so the less expensive the better!
Thanks!

Re: Reception cater help!

  • What kind of food are you wanting?

I know Black Eyed Pea is a favorite for cheap. I am having my reception at an AMAZING BBQ place called Prairie House in Aubrey, and they cater to Mckinney. It's $13pp for 2 meat buffet and $15pp for 3 meat. $19pp for ribs I believe. Also, you could try Babes in Frisco.

  • OH! I almost forgot. A good friend of mine just graduated from the culinary institute in Dallas and started her own catering business. http://www.purplelephantculinarycreations.com (I can vouch... her dishes are YUM!)

  • You should also check out the vendor sticky at the top of the page.  Most caterers will travel to your reception location.

I had to use the site caterer for my reception, but my RD was catered by Celebration.  Deeeelicious.

  • Many restaurants will cater too, so you could possibly ask some of your favorite places.

We did our reception at Maggiano's Little Italy and I know they cater too.
  • My wedding was in Fort Worth and so were both the caterers for my RD and reception -- but ditto Julie's advice of just looking at the restaurants you like. Chances are, they cater, and it is usually very cost-competitive. If they cater regularly, they'll likely be able to supply all those things you list.

I had a Mexican restaurant cater the RD and Reata (a kind of fancy place in downtown FW) cater the wedding. If you want inexpensive, Mexican and BBQ are usually the cheapest options (but it varies depending who you have). I am pretty sure when I was researching On the Border was very reasonably priced.
  • Recently I have had food from Johnny Carinos at a wedding and it was REALLY good! Try them if Italian is something you are interested in!
  • We didn't need an outside caterer in the end, but initially when I first started looking at venues, I also looked at caterers.  Tastefully Yours was one I asked for a quote from over a year ago.  I still get phone calls from them.  I even got one on Friday stating that they showed I had requested a proposal for 5/25 and that they would like to go over a menu so they could be a caterer.  Seriously, less than a week away and you're STILL calling, completely desperate, begging to be my caterer.  Kind of sad.

So I would say that I wouldn't get a quote from these people if their name comes up in your search.

  • You may want to look into Babes Chicken
  • We are using Sonny Bryan's BBQ and they have been great so far. They are also providing us TABC bartenders so that we can BYOB and we are saving so much money.

Please let me know how Sonny Bryan's is for you! I am looking into potentially using them to cater my reception in September 2013...have a ways to go but trying to get my details in place!
