Wedding Dress Shopping!!

I need help!

I currently live in Germany and will not be returning to New Orleans until the week of the wedding, November 3, 2012.

I have a great wedding planner, but I still need to shop for my dress here in Europe. Granted, I have all of Europe at my access, but I have NO CLUE where to go, how to shop, and all of my friends and family (especially mom) are in the States. So, I have to do this solo.

Any adive on where to go? Any store names? Boutiques?

Thanks,

Michelle

Re: Wedding Dress Shopping!!

  • Funny, I could have helped you in New Orleans LOL.

I started by researching designers and they will usually have links on their web site to find shops that carry dresses by that designer.  Then I started going into shops to try on dresses.  The gown I actually ended up purchasing was something I stumbled across at a sample sale I saw advertised on the one shop's web site and went in for the heck of it not expecting to find anything.

You will do fine shopping solo, I was by myself when I bought my dress.  Probably 75% of gowns you try on will be an immediate "No."  Once you narrow down your favorites then it might be good to get some input from your mother and look at those again.  If they don't let you take pictures when you try on dresses (and it might be worth begging and pleading and explaining your mother is in the States!) take good notes on designers and style names/numbers so you can try to find pictures on the internet to share.  I would wait until you've picked a dress to share with other friends/family besides your mother so you don't get confused by too many different opinions.

Good luck and keep us posted what you pick out!

It's unfortunate you have to go this alone but at least you have Paris! Not too crazy of a trip if you take the train.  I would start by doing a search on this site for dresses, there are other good sites where you see numerous designers in one site too like marthastewartweddings.... then you will begin to form an idea of what you are looking for. If you have a venue already then think about what you want your dress to look like in that environment. Of course budget is something important to stick to when trying on gowns, and take note when you are trying on gowns as to which silhouette and attributes flatter your body best.  As far as French designers go I like Cymbeline and as far as Italian I like Atelier Aimee, but I'm sure there are dozens more that we don't get here in the US and that you will have access to. Designers' sites usually list store locations or trunk show dates.  Good luck and let us know which gown you chose Smile

  • Thanks so much for responding! I found this dress online, and I have no clue who the designer is or where to find it. Have you heard of the website: www.satdresses.com? My cousin used this for her wedding and everything was flawless! I am a little skeptical, but I would still love to try this dress on first before ordering it.

Any information or help would be GREATLY appreciated! Laughing
