Exciting news!!

I had to share with someone!! I just had the most amazing experience fall into my lap, no joke. I've riden horses since I was 9 - competively since I was 13 and stopped about 2 years ago maybe. Well I posted an ad to craigslist that I would do work for riding time since I don't feel comfortable buying one down here yet. So this amazing guy writes me back. Turns out he is a Grand Prix competitor (super big deal) and wants me to come out and ride his horses!!!!! Like I had to pick my jaw off of the floor! Ahhhhhh! So I had to share my exciting news!
Anyone else have exciting news to share?!

That's amazing!  Does he just need to give them exercise?  What a perfect opportunity for you!  I love riding horses, not so big on mucking out the stalls so I didn't get very far.  But I do trail rides once in awhile.

That's really exciting! My MOH does the same thing at a local barn-work in exchange for riding time. I know how awesome of a deal this is and I'm excited for you!

    That's awesome!

Sorry to be the negative Nancy in the group too, but definitely take someone with you the first time you go, or first few times.  There are crazies on Craiglist.  Well everywhere really, but when it seems almost to good to be true, sometimes it is.

That's really great! I really want to go on a trail ride here in the area :). The hills are so beautiful, but it's just been so dry and hot. Not to mention the recent fires that have sparked up. Right now I'm really excited about a job opportunity that has come up too. (also found on craigslist) Someone needs a medical receptionist and I thought it would be great to apply since I'm a nursing major (not exactly the same job, but it's in the medical office setting) right now I'm actually waiting to be scheduled for an interview! :D Wish me luck!

Yeah, I agree with DNBeach.  Definitely let your FI know where you'll be and when, and bring someone with you the first few times.  Better safe than sorry!

I DO have good news after all - I've been working on some logo work for my Dad's company, and just completed an advertisement for him.  His partners liked the work so much that they're firing the freelancer they've been using and are going to use me from now on!  I need to set up a business so I can bill them and can claim business expenses on my tax return (since it's a home-based business, I can claim internet, one room's worth of rent for an 'office', any new software or tools for my computer, a new computer eventually... I'm drooling over a Mac Book Pro, but I'm a long way from that yet!)

Any suggestions on business names?  I want something fun but professional.

    That's awesome C!

How about Create by (first name)?   I always end up thinking of names that would be catchy, not necessarily always good.  And I don't want to put your name out for everyone.

Could work... I don't mind my first name being out there, though.  I'm thinking something else, like CD Creations - my initials.

That's awesome Zeldakins! And Cali - That's great news too!! What about Creative C? I'm not too good at making names either, I'm sure you'll think of something awesome though!

And thanks for the concern Beach - FI has the address of the Farm and I've done a ton of online research on the farm this morning and it seems pretty legit. But.. we'll see. I've wanted to get back into riding for a year now, but with the recent pcs it wasn't ideal so.. hopefully this takes me back down that path. Fingers crossed for no broken bones before the wedding Smile

Be careful with Tax deductions, you really don't want to get introuble with the IRS. I don't claim to be an expert I just took Business Tax Accounting last year, but I do recall there being strict, strict rules about business expenses. Basically you can ONLY use  the 'business related items' for you guessed it...BUSINESS. Your "home office" can ONLY be used for an office and you have to show that it isn't used for anything else (not a spare bedroom). Also, same thing goes for the computer... strictly business.

I suggest talking to a  small business lawyer before you go any further, they will get you all set up legally. =)

But congrats! Starting your own business is awesome.

Amanda, I live with a soon-to-be lawyer, who has taken small business law, and my future mother-in-law is a CPA and helping me set it up.  I'll be just fine, but thanks for the tips!
