Sooooooowe have bees living in a log on the edge of our property and a woman in the neighborhood was walking her pug and we were at the fence talking and we both got stung. I didnt think bees came out at night :(

Its right on my thigh and it hurts like a bitch. I dont think ive ever been stung before. wtf do I do?

Re: bee stings, help me

  • Is the stinger still in there?

  • Baking soda pasta

Unless it was really a wasp.
  • Make a paste out of meat tenderizer and apply it.

  • Do bees leave the stingers behind or is that just hornets? If the stinger is still in there, I've always used tape to get them out. Short of that, you can probably find some anti-sting ointment at a drugstore, and maybe ice it down.

    Bees suck.
  • well it was full dark out and I felt the sting after the woman freaking out and my dog freaking out, and when I was batting around I felt the bee body on my pants and brushed it away. I pulle dmy pants down when I got in and there is no stinger in it

the area that was stung is HUGE though, its about 3 mm higher than normal.
  • Agreed. Once the stinger's out (you can usually scrape it out with the edge of a credit card), the baking soda thing works great.

    Also, a wet, cool teabag.

I'm sorry you got stung! That sucks!

  • I dont think I have the other stuff, and I have been drinking so I cant get to a store, but I know we have wet teabags!
  • by baking soda paste I mean baking soda and water until its paste like.
  • I honestly don't know why that works, but it seems to soothe the pain and I've heard it helps to draw the venom out.

    Or something.

  • you have wet teabags or teabags you can wet? :)

at school we use ice. but that might be because that is all we are allowed to use.
  • Alternate with ice then, if you dont have the others. So try to keep the swelling down. Maybe put a cold beer can/bottle on it?

I got stung in the grocery last year he was hanging out on the handle. Right on my ring finger, its a good thing I pulled my ring off when I did. It was swelled for a week.

  • Wet tea bags haha, my husband makes tea in the afternoon before work and then doesnt empty the pot once its all gone, so wet tea bags hang out there until I empty it. I threw one in the freezer for a few minutes so it will be cold.
  • Do you have an antihistamine you can take (benedryl, zyrtec)?
  • Are you sure it isn't a bite? If you can't find a stinger it could be. Bites can get infected so I'd keep a close eye on it. If you have any aloe vera plants, a fresh piece a plant can help a lot.

  • Im pretty sure it was a bee, the woman outside the fence got stung and then I did. My dog was jumping on the log they are in, I just stupidly assumed since its nighttime and its been cooler out it wouldnt be an issue. I could feel the dead body on my pants after too and you can see a distinct sting in the puffed up area.
  • Oh sorry, I did mean a bee bite. My brother got one last summer and it got really, really infected.

  • Bees can bite AND sting?!?! Seriously?!

Yeah I just found that out this year too. Sucks huh. I hate bees/wasps.

  • Yeah, the dr said the bites are worse because they are dirty little insects and their saliva has a lot of bacteria.
    image
  • but they make honey with their saliva. those little abstards...
  • btw im laying on my side with no pants on with a cold wet tea bag on my leg. i feel like a total weirdo and its hard to type on my laptop like this.
  • To be hoenst I think the teabag helped A LOT. The swelling went down almost completely, though its still a bit sore and swollen and red. It doesnt hurt like it did to start though.

I have to admit though, im feeling a bit woozy. Ive had 4 beers, but I can noramlly drink 9 without getting drunk, so I think its the bee sting :(
  • YAY! to the swelling going down.

As for the wooziness, it could just be a "holy shiit! I just got stung by a bee!" reaction. I wouldn't worry too much unless it gets worse.

  • Take some Advil for the pain of the swelling and the headache, too. And keep an eye on the swelling to make sure it doesn't go further up your leg.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Thanks missy, I will keep an eye. Im putting the tea bag back in the freezer for later.

I just feel like my head is very heavy, you know what I mean. groggy.
  • Oddly the legs dont bother me when its not a real spider body. Its more the whole package that does me  in.
