Last Minute RSVPs & Additional Guests?!

So, deadline was 3 days ago. Got another RSVP in today (still waiting on 65 people) and it was from my uncle who lives up north, I invited him + his wife, he wrote that EIGHT guests will be there on the RSVP. that's SIX additional guests. HOLY CRAP.

Thank GOD this is a hor d'oeurves + drinks kind of thing and NOT a sit down dinner!!!

  • Wow. I know what you mean!!! My numbers keep creeping up as well. My dinner is buffet, so we should be find. I just have to make sure there is enough dec. for the tables.

  • I planned for 20 tables / 200 guests. Originally that's all we invited! Those numbers just keep creeping up and creeping up. It's making me CRAZY! I hope it doesn't go over 200 for final count or I'll have to run around making crazy adjustments LOL.

  • Wow... I would definitely call up your uncle and say you're sorry, but you can't accomodate that many people and had intended to invite his wife and him.

Good luck!  We've only had two uninvited guests, and both asked permission - a daughter (who hadn't been invited intentionally, but we could allow) and a wife (when I was told by FI and FMIL that he was a bachelor).

  • I'm going to let this one slide because this is one relative that I'd do pretty much anything for. And I'm pretty sure he's bringing his kids whom I'd love to see regardless. :) It just shocked me that he ignored what the RSVP said! LOL

We only had one other uninvited guest added on but that wasn't a huge deal either. We're pretty relaxed about it since it's a late reception with just HDs and Drinks. :) should be fine. At this point if everyone RSVPs yes we'll still be in OK shape :)

  • Wow, if I were you I would call up your uncle and tell him that you can't accommodate any extra guests.  Adding six people is rude and ridiculous!  If you don't mind having them there, I guess don't say anything, but since it sounds like you are stressed about numbers, I would make the call.

We have had some add ons as well.  We had a friend ask to bring a girl he started dating after invitations went out.  Two of my cousins also asked to bring their girlfriends (who we didn't know existed even though I had asked my aunt before).  We also had one couple my grandparents' age add two of their adult children on to their RSVP.  We had the room, so we are letting the extra guests come.
  • The late RSVP's have been making me so mad! I just want to finish my seating chart, meal count, and centerpiece needs! I only have a few people going back and forth between coming/not coming, so I can't imagine having more non-responders or anyone inviting extra guests. Aaa! How do people not know basic manners about this kind of stuff?!?

  • We luckily didn't end up with any extra guests on any of our RSVPs.  If you're ok with the extra guests then it's no big deal.

  • Yeah my first post came off like I was mad - I was never mad, just SHOCKED that the invite was CLEARLY made out to TWO people, then they added 6. LOL. They're older too and have kids, do they not know protocol? lol

  • My original wish was 50, moved it to 80 for my FMIL and we are no at 92. How does that happen?

  • People start appearing out of the woodwork once you mention wedding. LOL then it's all invite this person and that person. I swear 80% of our guestlist is comprised of people we haven't even seen in at least a year or two.

We're paying for our wedding and we had my mom and grandma trying like mad to invite more people. We told them that we were happy to invite more if they (my mom and/or grandma) were willing to pay for their plates. We have held firm at about 60 guests, but it would have been SO easy to get up to 100.
