Wedding Venue Help

Hi everyone - this is my first post to the CT Knot boards... My fiance and I are planning a January 2013 wedding and we are trying to figure out a suitable venue site for a winter wedding reception. Right now, we have checked out the New Haven Lawn Club and Cascade in Hamden. We are going to look at the Gershon Fox Room in Hartford, Water's Edge in Westbrook and Tradition Golf Course in Wallingford. Does anyone have any experience with any of these sites? Any advice/comments/warnings are greatly appreciated :)

Re: Wedding Venue Help

  • Have you looked into St. Clements caste?  My friend had a winter wedding there, very pretty and reasonably priced since it was the off season

Check out Farmington Gardens in Farmington. I had seen some pics of a winter wedding done there in the greenhouse. It looked absolutely gorgeous. Definitely worth a look in my opinion.

New Haven Lawn Club:  One of my BM's got married there in Dec. 2010.  It was all set up for Christmas so they didn't even need any decor.  That was the only time I had been there so I'm not sure how long the Christmas decor stays up or what it's like otherwise.  The food and service were also great.

Water's Edge:  I work at Water's Edge (mostly in the summer, but also work weddings throughout the year).  The perk to W.E. in the winter is that there aren't a million people around.  It's fairly quiet except for the people that have events going on.  The summer is a whole other story.....

Traditions:  My cousin's baby shower was there as was her daughter's first birthday party.  Both times the food was buffet style but very good.  The rooms are gorgeous as well.

How many people are you looking at and what price range?  Venues are a lot cheaper in winter so you will definitely get more bang for your buck.  You can probably negotiate more considering they would want some business as opposed to you walking and not giving them any business.  Do you also have a lot of out of town guests?
  • Congrats!

I am getting married in March 2013  at The Gershon Fox Room. So far, my experience has been wonderful working with them.

Before choosing them, I also looked at The Society Room (around the corner from G. Fox), and The Riverview in Simsbury.

They all are beautiful venues, but the style of G. Fox was what I fell in love with and I think it is so unique...not your typical ballroom.

The price is reasonable during the off season (Nov-March).

    Good luck in your search!
  • Absolutely LOVED Cascades!! Best decision we made for our venue!! They made our day even that much more special! They are AMAZING to work with, their food is delicious & make you feel like you are their own wedding throughout all of planning. Aside from the fact that their ballroom is gorgeous!

If you have any specific questions, let me know! I would love to answer!

  • We saw Cascade this past weekend....and we loved it.... They have some great deals for winter weddings and I think we are going to book for next February....
  • We are getting married at the Aqua Turf which is just outside of Southington. They have their grounds decorated beautifully for the holidays. They have been amazing throughout planning and I would definitely recommend them!!
  • The Madison Beach Hotel is reopening this May and it is AMAZING. I bet you could get a good deal on a winter wedding there. Plus, their catering facility is now on the second floor, so you will have the amazing water views without having to be out in the cold.

Congratulations! Welcome to the January 2013 club! We'll be marrying then too, but we'll be at A Villa Louisa in Bolton. Cory has been so great to work with and they're pretty flexible during the off season. Good luck in your search. Those places are beautiful!

  • We are getting married at the new haven lawn club, june 2013. Christine and Daniella have been amazing to work with, and we have only heard good things about them and the NHLC as we've been booking other vendors. If you have specific questions PM me, but I would def take a look at them!
