Appropriate Shower Gifts...

My shower will be on April 22nd and my FMIL and mom both told me there aren't any real "shower" presents on any of my registries. FMIL suggested the wine glasses I was lusting after and was going to buy myself and mum suggested some truffled bone china tea cups and matching sets.

That's all great, but what the hell is considered an appropriate present besides these two suggestions...?

Re: Appropriate Shower Gifts...

  • I think that depending on the circle, people consider a shower gift "appropriate" when it is more bride-oriented than groom oriented, since they are, in fact, showering the bride.  That said, most guys won't make registries on their own, so I don't know how most of it COULD be more groom-oriented, and I think most circles (at least these days) don't bother with that stereotype and will purchase anything from the registry that they can afford.

    Could they clarify what an "appropriate" shower gift means, aside from those specific items???  Does it maybe have to do with affordability, or even portability (e.g. not appliances or giant boxes of cookware)?

  •  A shower is meant to shower the brides with gifts. If it's on your registry it's appropriate Lol
  • If you want me to look at your registry and see if I can give suggestions, feel free to PM me.  Without looking, I would think some baking supplies (pans and cookie sheets) would be good, maybe some aprons and hand towels? We registered for regular bath towels and got every single one of them. And more. Also, some people will go in on gifts so they get more bang for their buck.
  • I saw you post on FB Meg; thanks a bunch. It was helpful.

    @Zim: that's what I thought too! I chose it - it's what I like! Laughing

  • I think most home goods dishes, glasses, towels, sheets are appropriate, and in my circle usually you spend less on the shower gift, so you want lower priced items to be available. So unless your registry is full of, IDK power tools and items that are 200 I don't know WTF she's talking about.

  • I would suggest to make sure that you have a good amount of items in the $30-50 price range. That should keep you covered.
