inventive(inexpensive) reception ideas, 75 people

This is my first post! Thanks in advance and sorry this is so long...

I had a big wedding in 2004 but the marriage only lasted 3 months. We get along fine as friends and I got a wonderful daughter out of the deal so I'm fine with that ')

I am now engaged to the love of my life and have begun the beginning stages of planning. I am very excited but know how expensive weddings can get and do not have the budget this time to go all out, nor do I want to! However with this being the first time around for my FI I understand him wanting a decent size wedding. I would love nothing more than to have another fancy wedding but would never think to ask my parents to foot the bill again. So this means we have a budget of $5000 and would like to get the most for our money obviously.  So I'm back on the Knot for a second go round hoping to get as much knottie help and recs as I did planning my 1st wedding.

My FI took me to a venue that I fell in love with! There is a gazebo for the ceremony or plenty of space inside if the weather turns out bad. Reception area is very spacious and again I just love it!! We are not interested in a church ceremony and we have our hearts set on Skyline catering so we need a venue that will alllow us to have outside catering. Although I do love this venue we are paying for this ourselves so I will continue researching cheaper options and would like ideas on less expensive venues in or around cincy/nky

Thanks ladies!

I saw this on this board awhile back and had the foresight to save it.  It's an article that was published on The Knot about budget weddings.  In it is mentioned the Observatory and we recently attended a weddinng there.  They can easily accomodate your numbers.

Pattison Lodge in Batavia.  Fills quick though.  I think most Saturdays are gone in 2012.
They allow you to bring in your own food, catering and it's only $500 or so.

Also, a very veery beautiful lodge in Sharon Woods park is the same way.  ON the lake, and very private.
Lakeside Lodge.  The inside has a fireplace and looks great when lights are turned down and candles lit.
With both, I'd suggest chair and table covers, as they supply chairs and tables but they are very cafeteria style.
For rental, I suggest Kosins in Centerville.  Cheapest place I've found in the area, and were very easy to work with.

try the Butler County parks system WAY cheaper than the ones in Hamilton County. Try all the surrounding counties too. they all have lodges that are pretty cheap, not sure of the head count though.
  • I'm having the same issue.  I just checked with Pattison Park in Clermont County since thats where I live and its a great setting.  There's not one Saturday available in 2012.  UGH!! Planning a short wedding on a budget is going to kill me!  Trying to see if we can swing having a wedding on a Friday, but with everyone working I'm no sure it can happen.
