Bouquet/Garter Toss... Still Popular?

Hi Girls!
So far, in the past 3 years I've had a huge increase in friends and family getting married. NONE of them did the bouquet or the garter toss.
I know it has a cheesey aspect to it, but I remember it being so traditional!

I am debating whether or not to toss the bouquet.

Are any of you going to throw the bouquet/garter?

nope. I do think it's still pretty common, but we're choosing not to do it. I think it also depends on the age of the crowd. Do you have a lot of single people attending? or are they older and married? I think if you have a good crowd of people that would participate, it's fine. If you literally have 2 or 3 single girls and a few guys, I think it may actually make them feel awkward and singled out. If I was trying to decide whether to do one or not, I'd definitely take that into consideration.

We're not doing it. We don't have too many single friends and we want as much time for dancing as possible, so we decided against it. Plus, I think it is kind of cheesy -- maybe it just reminds me of awkard moments at family weddings! Haha!

hmmm thats a good question i also agree with akulaji, it depends on ur crowd i would think if there are many kids involved it would be cute and fun but my crowd is older and married with older kids but some of them are single so its a tough call, I also did hear that a lot of people are not doing the tossing of the bouquet tradition, but then again it's up to us to decide. oh, i also saw a wedding where the bride had 3 little bouquets incorporated into one so instead of throwing one bouquet she actually threw three and it was a nice surprise for the people catching it. so instead of completely not doing it, maybe throwing a little twist to it will make it more bareable. i think thats what i"ll do myself.... hope i helped,, let us know what u decide

    It is still very common.
I was originally going to only toss the bouquet but we just went to a wedding this past weekend and they did the garter toss and it made me think "this is so fun, maybe we should do it"
I know, I'm a total hypocrite because I bitched about how cheesy it was not to long ago!!

Normally, whatever girl catches the bouquet, the guys set it up so that her partner catches the garter so it isn't so akward for them.
I also liked how the bride and groom stood there while the guy was putting it on her and it was up to the bride and groom when to tell the guy to stop.
It was fun and I got kinda upset when I realized that I will never again be one of the single girls up there ready to catch the bouquet (or run from it!)
and ironically, the stupid bouquet fell right next to me!
I didn't pick it up though, I let the single ladies dive for it

I also want an excuse to hear Beyonce's Single Ladies song and then Who Let the Dogs Out
    lol!

We are not doing it for most of the reasons that akulaji mentioned. we only have a handful of friends that are single and don't think it is fair to single them out. Plus IMO it is humiliating to the bride & groom.

Every wedding I've been to has had one, and we went to 3 last year, and 4 this year, so we're definitely doing them because of this. We know it'll be fun, and our friends and family will miss it if we don't.

I think it all depends on your circle, don't have one if you only have a few single friends left don't single them out with this tradition, but if you have a big crowd go for it!

We are definitely doing this! I guess I can agree with it depending upon the crowd and how many single people are in attendance.

All the weddings that I have been to lately & in the past have done them!

Fun times! I agree LOL it is an excuse to hear my favorite ever jam!!!! Fatman scoop-Be Faithful!!! LOVE IT!!! Cool

Asian weddings that FI and I have been to don't do garter/bouquet tosses... but aaaall the Hispanic ones we've been to have. I wouldn't mind doing a bouquet toss, but I'd feel uncomfortable with FI's head up my dress for the garter! He has no opinion on the matter... so we're not doing it. We're also NOT doing a Dollar Dance because I will not dance for money.

We did the same! Did a bouquet toss, and it was a very cute throw away bouquet:) And DH was too embarassed to do garter and I kind of agreed, as I had seen it be trashy in the past. It depends on your guests I think!

We didn't do either, mainly because I think there were two or three single people in total at the wedding. If it will play well with your crowd and you have enough single people go for it!

I never knew about dollar dances either until we went to a wedding for FI's co-worker/friend last year. It was a Greek wedding and their dollar dance went on and on and ON... seriously it was at least half an hour to 45 minutes long.

That's what FSIL's wedding was like- but it lasted for almost 1.5 hrs! At one point, the B&G forced their BP (FI was a GM) to join them in the dance so they could get more $$!!
