Cant find a venue!!

Hi guys, my names Megan and i just got engaged a month ago.  We are planning a wedding for September 2012.  We started looking for venues to hold our reception and we are already so stressed!  We live in Streetsboro/Aurora and it seems any place we can find is either too far away, or is a country club that wants us to pay $5000 just for a reception.  We like the idea of something a little unique or as my fiance puts it, no low ceilings.  We are willing to drive 20 mins away to hold the reception but not too far since we do have family coming in from out of town as well.  Our budget is really small since were trying to save for a house and were pretty good at being frugal (lots of connections!!).  Can anyone help me find a place that won't break bank or cause a road trip?  Oh yea were looking to invite 100-120 people.  Any help would be insanely appreciated. THANK YOU!

Like PP said you might get more help that way from the locals BUT a way to start is by googling "Reception banquet" and "Ceremony site" with your city..thats how I found my ceremony venue, I never knew about the Ranch we are having our ceremony at until I did that and looked at their website. Our reception venue we drove by one day and saw an event going on so we got the banquet number info.

We were lucky enough to book both within a weeks time as they both said 2012 is starting to book up fast.

Have you looked into places run by the park service or historical society? A lot of times those places are overlooked, cheap, and will allow you to choose your own vendors (which will save you a ton of money).

Not sure about the cost, but I went to undergrad at Hiram College and I know people have had weddings there before!

I forgot about this one. Friends of mine were married on campus at Hiram (outside) and had their reception at Kennedy Hall on campus. I think that's the name. It has been quite a few years. I know their wedding was on a strict budget and they pulled it off just fine. They had a guitarist play during cocktail hour, but ran music thru their laptop for dancing after dinner. They served beer and wine, and it was pretty much a serve-yourself thing -- no bartenders. All of their decor, favors, etc were diy.  The food was pretty good, as I recall.

We are getting married at The German Family Society in Kent - it is really nice and the outside ceremony space is beautiful - they are not too expensive ($19 per plate and $8 for bar with wine and beer ) kids are half price. HIlda is the woman in charge of weddings and she is really nice and has been great to work with, also it is right off of St RT 43 and close to Kent Hotels....
