budget catering...please help!

Ugh...This is my first planning annoyance and I'm lucky because it's minor and we still have PLENTY of time.  I can't seem to find a caterer that works for us.  We're looking at $30-$40/person for 80 people on the north shore.  We have a number of children and vegetarians.  We want to serve a dinner, but are open to different ways of doing so.

I'm not going to mention any specific company names, because I'm not the trash-talking type and I realize I could be being overly picky, but we had less-than-fantastic experiences at our last two catering meetings.  Both people were 10 minutes late to the meetings.  One seemed to want to be in charge of every aspect of the wedding, insisting on a whole lot of things that had nothing to do with food and were definitely not in our budget.  The other seemed to have too many costs that weren't listed up front and would not give a proposal until you paid the deposit.

So I'm turning to my fellow knotties in hopes that you have recommendations.  Who have you loved working with that was also affordable?

Thanks so much!

I'm using Fasano's and I really love them.  They are totally in your budget and Marta the manager is really great.  They are not pushy and tell you ways to do things that will save money. Goodluck!!

These people are more into central MA, but all of them travel to the North Shore.  I've had all of them and they're all amazing!

Thank you so much ladies.  I contacted Tony and Penny's a while ago, but they said they couldn't travel that far for only 80 people.

I'm grateful to have so many leads:)

I am using Creative Catering in Beverly and so far they seem great.  I also looked at Cloverleaf and they seem to have reasonable prices too, but we liked the food and professionalism better at Creative.

We're using Gourmet Delights out of Hamilton.  Roxann has been wonderful and soo helpful and their prices were cheaper than I could have imagined.  We love the professionalism, the food, the friendliness, and the price!

I am using Cloverleaf Caterers from Peabody.  I am getting a stationary table with dips, cheeses, crackers, etc. and a buffet dinner with two entrees, a starch, and a vegetable for under $35 per person.  The price includes taxes, fees and gratuities.  We also opted to have some hot passed app during the cocktail hour, and they seemed reasonably priced to me.  Good luck!

I also am going with Cloverleaf Catering  in Peabody. SHe has many different options under $40 that offer alot. I am doing Carved Turkey, Carved Prime Rib, Potatoes, Carrots, Salad, Bread, and vegetable table with dips and that is 40$ p/p which includes taxes, gratuities and server fees. I also opted to do hot apps passed for cocktail hour. I am getting scallops wrapped w/ bacon, crabmeat stuffed mushrooms, and bruschetta as well. For all this plus fruit with your cake it is coming to a total of 5400 for 130 people if paid with cash. This includes all food, apps, salad, bread, and fruit with dessert plus taxes, gratutiesShe also does very good work and her food is fantastic.
