How to discuss wedding with people who may not be invited

I'm recently engaged and after sharing the news, lots of friends want to get together to catch up on the details of it all. Some are close friends that will definitely be invited to the wedding & some are older friends that I've grown apart from and don't keep in touch with regularly anymore. My fiance & I  just decided to have a smaller wedding with close family & friends. I know some ppl who expect to be invited may not be. Now here's the question--when I meet up with these friends who I've grown apart from in recent years, how do I approach the wedding subject? Obviously that will be what they ask about since that's the news of the moment, but how do I answer honestly without giving them the impression that they should put the date on their calendars?

Re: How to discuss wedding with people who may not be invited

  • If they approach you and ask, tell them that due to space/budget restrictions you and your FI have opted for a smaller wedding/venue/etc.
  • What pps said.

Plus don't discuss anything about the wedding planning/details with those not invited. If they ask you about details concerning the wedding (like venue, flowers, etc.) say, "I don't know yet. All I know is that it will be small." Then change the topic.

  • I agree with the 2 pp. Don't talk details because it is rude to talk about the wedding to those who will not be invited and they might take it as you are kind of rubbing it in their face. Just let them know your limitations and leave details out of it.
  • If they ask, just be polite and to the point (and honest), and then move on.

You shouldn't bring up the wedding with people who aren't invited, but if they bring it up just do what PPs said.
  • What PPs said. Just let them know it's going to be a small wedding and don't tell details.
    Congrats btw!
