Aston Kaanapali Shores

Anyone stay here? Saw a travel agent today and she recommended this one that is in my price range. Condos, which I like, and oceanfront. The reviews see positive, a couple complain it's not really Kaanapalic beach, more Honokwai-not sure the pros/cons of either.

Re: Aston Kaanapali Shores

  • I heard the rooms were getting a bit old...but persoanlly I have never stayed there.  Right beside is the Honua Kai where we are booked in May.  It was just built....its a condo resort.  We booked through vrbo.com.  Im not sure what your budget is, but we got an ocean view 1 bed with kitchen for $230/night.

  • We stayed there a few years ago and it is a good value!  A few things....yes, it is not right on Kanaapali Beach.  That can be good if you want to stay away from the crouds, but sort of a bummer if you like to be able to walk to everything.   Another con is that the beach right in front was a little rocky.  It was not terrible, but you did have to be careful.

But it is a great value since you have a whole kitchen.  We pretty much always ate breakfast and lunch at the place if we were around.  The grounds are also very nice :)  I would definitely ask for a rennovated room.  We went in 2008 and they were about half way done then, so I am guessing most of them are done.

Let me know if you have other questions!

  • luvbug-have you stayed anywhere else in Maui, or Hawaii in general? Would you recommend this place to a person looking to go to Hawaii for their honeymoon, and for a first time ever there? FI and I are active people. We do want relaxation and just no crowds, beaches etc. but we also want day trips to snorkel, kyack, hike to site-see different things that Hawaii has that NY does not. We like a litte night life, big drinkers, but we don't need clubbing. Seeing a luau would be awesome!

So...long story short-is Maui and Aston Kaanapali Shores a right match for us? Thanks!!!

  • I have stayed at another resort on Oahu and have taken a cruise through the islands.  To be honest, I don't think i would want to stay at Kanaapali shores for my honeymoon.  Because of the condo concept (which can be awesome), you get A LOT of families.  There were a lot of kids at the pools and around.  I think I would also want to be somewhere with a little nicer of a beach.

From what you are saying about yourselves, I think Maui would be perfect.  It is a good mix of activities and some nightlife.  (mostly in Lahaina though).  Kauai sounds like it would be to laid back for you and Oahu, which has more night life, will probably be too commercial and crowded.

Depending on your budget, I would look at Kapalua and Wailea.  Both have gorgeous beaches and are a little more seculded.  I personally love Kanappali beach, but it will definitely be more corwded.  But it also gives you access to shops and restaurants (and drinks! :) haha)  There are ton of great choices in Maui.
