David's Bridal giving out info...

Has anyone had trouble with David's Bridal giving out their information after registering with them? Yesterday I got an email from a Mary Kay lady, who apparently got my info from David's. She said I "won" a makeover for myself and 2 friends at the Wingate (??) in Orlando by Millenia. I am a little upset that David's gave out my information! Not only did she have my email, but after replying to her email, she called my cell phone! Is this common?

First... don't fall for the "makeover"... its BS !  And second... DB doesn't give your information out... are you sure you weren't stopped by someone when you first walked in to enter a contest?

I got so many calls from the Mary Kay lady and some nutritionist company after registering with David's but I just kept telling them I wasn't interested or didn't answer when they called and after a month or so they stopped calling.  Now if I could just get the people from the bridal show to stop calling!!

I didn't sign up for anything, but I do remember a Mary Kay lady being there when I went to try on dresses. I wonder if one of my BM signed me up...? And yes, I couldn't agree more about the winning thing. She said she drew my name this month as a winner... right! It's totally a way to trick me into buying Mary Kay. *ugh*

They use to say that you and your BMs won a makeover and facial... I fell for it.  I then signed up for a night and me, my BMS, and couple of their moms went and it was an event where you put on your own makeup and the facial was a dime size of a product that YOU rubbed on your face lol.  Then after about 2 hours (yeah we all felt trapped) they try and ge tyou to become part of their cult.  One of my BMs on the walk out thanked them all for wasting all of our time lol.

If you went to a bridal show, it was probably the bridal show itself, not David's Bridal. Bridal shows will typically give all vendors contact informatin for everyone who attended. It's one of the biggest perks for getting vendors to pay for a booth, so I wouldn't doubt if it was them, and not DB. Although, I don't know why she would say that it was, if that were the case, but whatever.

Ladies, please know that not all Mary Kay Ladies are like that...I'm sorry you had such distasteful experiences. One bad apple...as they say...spoils it for all of us :(

I fell for it too! First of all, when I got the call they DID NOT say that they were from Mary Kay. They said I had won a free makeover from a makeup artist - blah blah - in hopes I would use them for my wedding. So they way they were saying it made it seem like she was an actual cosmetologist or something. I did not find out until I got to the place that it was a Mary Kay scam. But whatever, my friend and I had a good time with it, making fun and laughing at everything. And plus, I got $20 worth of free product so whatever. I don't know why they were endorsed by David's Bridal though?? I thought because it was them it was legit but guess NOT!

Haha, I've been to one of those, too. My friend had just started doing Mary Kay and said she needed a "Face Model". She made it sound like she needed to do a makeover on someone in front of a group as a presentation, so I thought I'd just sit there and let her do my makeup so she could get certified or soemthing. It turned out to be that all the new MK reps invite their friends, then leave them all in a room with another lady while the rest of them go who knows where until they finished the sales pitch.   It kind of felt like Nemo and the sharks and the whole "Fish Are Friends, Not Food" club, and the poor little fish that got eaten. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

My favorite part, though, was the "game". They gave us a paper and told us that when they say "go", we should go through our phones and address books and write down as many names and phone numbers of our family and friends that may be interested in MK. Whoever had the most names and numbers won.  I wasn't about to give out my friends' information and make them mad for a chance to win a lip liner or something. LOL

The only thing I can think of...when you register for an account on the website, there is a box you have to uncheck that says something like 'approving DB to share your information with other companies".
When I registered I forgot to remove myself from that and now I get emails from all sorts of other "wedding" sites.

I actually "won" a Mary Kay makeover and went to see what ideas they had that I could steal (I'm a mark. consultant). But I won that from an expo I went to. My MOH and friend who's helping me plan signed me up for literally every contest at that expo. So me & my friend went to the bogus makeover. I was really annoyed. They made us look old (we're only 19 and 21, and they had us wearing makeup that they wore and they were like 50 something...not the makeup us young people wear these days).

But David's does give your information to vendors. I got a call a few days after registering on David's website that I had "won" a contest to go see a cooking show & get a free vacation. It was freaking stupid!!! I hated it and so did my fiance. Of course, he's a cutco rep, so seeing other companies cookware & cutlery just makes him laugh, especially when they compare it to cutco. But the trip is complete bogus. We have to pay a reservation fee of like $160 to go, but it's still way cheaper than it would be if we had to pay for the whole hotel stay, so we're thinking of saving it and going to Vegas eventually.

But yes, David's does give out your phone number at least. I also got calls from local vendors asking if I needed a reception site or a wedding planner. I guess they have good intentions--helping out the local vendors and giving brides some info they otherwise wouldn't find, but it is rather irritating. Maybe they should ask if they can give it out.

I got that same phone call about the cooking show and free honeymoon! FI wouldn't let me go bc he said it was stupid and a scam. haha
I use Mary Kay and I love it and my consultant. My lady told me that the makeovers have you do it so that you get used to using the product and you know how to do and make it look the way you are used to and to see if you like the product. What good is it if the product looks good when the makeup artist does it but you can't make it look like they did. It is more for the person that does their own makeup than the fancy occasion where you would want a make up artist.
