March 2013 Weddings

How's it going?

Well, we're almost all under 4 months, and some of us getting close to 3 months away! Crazy! Just thought I'd see where everyone's at with their planning :-)

I've been getting pretty overwhelmed but I'm starting to calm down again, haha. We have most of our addresses, just waiting on a few. Our guest list is now over 300. Luckily we are 99% sure a good number of them aren't coming because they live out of town and we doubt they'd make the trip. Our venue doesn't hold 300 people! It was probably stupid to keep adding but.. it is what it is I guess haha.

We asked our friend to be our officiant but then I was having second thoughts. I've been doing a large amount of the work myself. I started thinking about having to write the entire ceremony and I just didn't want to do it. I talked to FI about hiring a "real" officiant to make it easier on me and asking our friend to do a reading or be an usher instead. I ultimately decided he can do the ceremony, but I am NOT writing it! Not sure who will, but it won't be me!

We're trying to figure out our honeymoon. FI was having issues with his work because they have blackout dates for vacation that we thought started the week after the wedding. Turns out they start the week after that, yay! So now we can go when we want, we just have NO clue where. I think we will meet with a travel agent to help us narrow it down.

We've been looking at wedding bands. My engagement ring is SO difficult! It's a curved band so nothing in the stores works with it. I'm leaning toward something custom but we will see!

Oh and we booked our hotel block! Yay!

Things we need to do: finalize invitation wording so we can get them all printed, then put them all together. Figure out programs. Figure out accessories. Finalize bouquets/boutonnieres. Finalize and order suits. Tons of other random little things. AHH there's so much to do, lol.

If you read all this, you're awesome haha. I guess I just need to ramble a bit :-)

Re: How's it going?

  • Sounds like you got a lot done...it's gettig so close :)  We are 94 days out...and I'm not into it right now.  I keep thinking I have a lot of time, which is making me put things off.  I guess I'm just in a slump right now.  We are sending our invitations out the week after Christmas, so we don't need to worry too much about them getting mixed in with Christmas cards.  Next week we are registering..maybe that will help to put me in the mood?  Not sure.   How dd you do your hotel block?  I'm not sure how many rooms to plan for...

  • Our venue has a list of nearby hotels so we looked into the ones that had shuttles. We met a rep from one of them at the tasting event (they do a big tasting event a few times a year which is nice because we got to taste almost EVERYTHING, haha). FI emailed back and forth with him and decided it was the best option because of the price and because they have a shuttle service. He emailed us a contract, we printed it and signed it, then emailed it back. We live about an hour from where the wedding will be so it's not easy for us to just stop in.

Anyways, there is a discounted rate for the Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun of our wedding weekend which is nice for those that need/want to stay more nights. There's no minimum amount of rooms, but if 25 get booked, we get our room for free. Otherwise we get the bridal suite for the discounted rate, which is a good price, so I'm not too concerned! We just have to call him soon to actually book our room (I'm sure he needs a credit card number or whatever).

As for registering, we did that last month. We registered at BBB and Target. I'm kinda regretting registering at Target so soon though. Things on the list keep changing or are out of stock (though I know some of it is because of Black Friday sales). For example, we put these travel coffee mugs on there. One showed up with a picture and the other didn't. Well now, neither have it, and the name of it has changed. It's just annoying that every time I look at the list, I have to see if something changed. They have the option to add a note for each item, so I've done that on a couple things that were listed incorrectly (like some throw pillows - they were listed as black but we wanted the tan color that we actually scanned.. blah).

  • 99 days away for me!! :)

First off, thanks for talking me off the ledge, ladies. Even though I have the "let's cut our losses and elope" thought still, it's a lot less frequent than it was.

Here's what I've knocked out recently:
    • Bought custom stickers for my candy buffet favor bags. Pear Tree Greetings had a sweet sale on Black Friday, and they were 20% off.
    • Got my envelopes back from my calligrapher today. I had most of them on Monday, but I had to send one back because my FMIL's name was spelled wrong. Oops. Lol.
    • Hounded my FI until he booked our wedding night suite. And he did a fabulous job. Largest suite in the hotel that I've wanted to stay in since I was little.
    • Finalized my ceremony music with a friend who plays the piano.
    • Completed our registry at BBB.
    • Bought a super fabulous reception dress at Cache on sale.
    • Found a makeup artist for the wedding day.

Also, we close on our house in 6 days, so in addition to all of that I've been scheduling movers and meeting with the builder. Ahhh. So crazy, but so close. :)

  • Congrats on the house Mishe! That's so exciting! I can't wait until we can get our own house :-)

  • You ladies have been productive!! We haven't done a whole lot recently. Here is my list:

    Completed/In Process:
    - Started filling in an excel seating chart with some of the people in our families that we know will be there
    - Made list of inner/outer envelope info for all of our guests so that my Mom and address our invites while we're home for Christmas
    - Ceremony Program: Still don't know exact music selections yet but I have a sample of our program printed on this beautiful ecru felt card stock. Here is the front! That is the same monogram on our invitiation, I had to take a photo and convert it to black and white (the invite is ecru and gold font) then I was able to save it and I plan to use it on most of our printed items. (I erased some of the specific info for this picture) Also I still have some work to do on my bow tying skills.. haha. Will print and assemble these after we confirm everything with the priest/musician

    To Do
    - Complete Welcome Packet
    - Meet with priest and musician/cantor to go over readings and music
    - Book flights for wedding (we've been putting this off because Airtran and Southwest have so many sales but so far they have been ending March 6- so we're going to wait another week or two then book if the dates don't extend to our wedding)
    - Book honeymoon (FI has been stressing about money and we've been putting this off, but will probably book in the next week or so)
    - Send invites week or so after Christmas
    - First fitting and hair trial after Christmas

I'm starting to get a little overwhelmed.. I've been good so far but that To Do list is actually much longer! There are just so many things that I can't do until I get to PA (where the wedding is) because its too much to travel with it all :(

  • We're 93 days now... I wasn't into planning for a few weeks but have been back into it lately. Our guest list went up a little. We were aiming for 80 but now it's 108 :o) We're also quite sure though that a few couples wont be coming due to the wedding being out of town for them (and state, and country in some cases). I'm almost done the invites and we're settled on an apartment.
It's been long-distance planning for me so it's been pretty crazy. You may have noticed my ???? themed posts.
Our tasting, and my hair and make-up trials will be all for my next visit after Christmas. I'll look for a florist then too and book once I find someone I like. Photographer and videographer I hope to have booked next week. So all in all, I'm kind of behind, but not overly...
I was thinking of spending our first night in our new apartment, because it will be the first time we're living together and all that (Bible-thumper couple, lol)... but now I'm kind of wondering if I want to book a nice hotel suite...  pros/cons anyone?

  • Starting to feel the stress now...

I've just been told that I need to do a bunch of work travel in January so I'm freaking out a little. We are mostly on track and I have a lot of time off at Christmas that I will be dedicating to the wedding.

What we are working on now: The invites. They are at the printer now which is very exciting. This weekend we are going to find something for FI to wear. He hasn't figured that out yet. Then I'm generally working on decor items and favors.

We'll probably meet with our officiant in early January or Feb to plan out the ceremony. I pick up my dress in January.

I dunno it feels like I'm forgetting so many things.

Still 114 days out...I finally got a Wedding Coordiantor, but her job is super easy because we did most of the things on the list already. We have our Chapel & reception site, I have my dress, the bridesmaids have theirs, we ordered the cake, we sent out Save the Dates...however, we haven't done one single registry yet. I tried to start one online and then had a panic attack...way too much stuff to choose from. The rental items are done, but we still haven't been to the florist and our schedules are tight until mid January. I'm a photographer and its my busy season, my Fiancee is a Event Organizer, and he has a huge event coming up...I didn't want to have to wait until the last two months to get things done, but that's how its looking...I'm glad we have the Coordinator, hopefully she can help us out with all the other fine details...

  • Well I still have a ton to do...or at least it feels that way.
Invites addressed and stuffed - tough last min we decided to change the information card so I have to go back through and change that.
Dress came in! And it fits, will need minimal alterations Woohoo for that. I am all set with my stuff and all my BM are set too
We are working on my FI and GM suits, we picked them out and got some of the GM gifts (we're doing socks, shoes and their tie)
The ceremony and reception site is taken care of, sitting down in Jan and finalizing my decor.
    Florist is done and paid
Cake is done and paid, we are also doing a cookie and candy bar but I know were that is all coming from and we will need to order in Feb
Photog is done and has a shot list and rough timeline for the day
We are all registered and have actually received our first gift already!
Honeymoon (to PARIS!!) both flight and apt for the week paid for
We are have to be at the airport at 6am out of SF which is about 2.5 hours away so we opted to not book a hotel room for the wedding night, a little less romantic but we couldn't justify it for 5 hours.
I still need to sit down with the DJ, though we have most of our stuff picked. Write my vows and reception speech. Finalize the cater for the rehearsal dinner. Find my tailor for the alterations.
I guess I do have a decent amount done. Sometimes it just doesn't feel like it.
