Update

IT'S NOT CANCER! Huuuuuuge sigh of relief.

They've diagnosed her with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. It appears to only be affecting one joint (in her knee), and I think they've caught it early enough that there's little concern for stunted growth and other nasty things. She's going to get some injections and then be put on some kind of medication, and hopefully that'll be the end of it.

Thank you girls for all the love and support. It really means a lot to me :-)

<div>Oh please do! I've been researching it all evening, but the more info I have (especially from someone who actually has it) the better.</div>

  • Oh thank goodness!  There's nothing worse than little people having terrible diseases.  At least with it being caught early they can work with her.
  • That's great! I mean, it still sucks that she has to go through anything at all, but at least it's not cancer. =) *big hugs!*
  • Thank goodness!! What great news!
  • Sent you a PM!! Smile
  • Wow that is such great news!!!! RA is unfortunately still uncomfortable but not nearly as scary as cancer and hopefully they caught it early enough to monitor it and make her as comfortable as possible!  :-)
  • Great news (about the non-cancer)! T&Ps!!

  • That's so amazing! I'm so glad! This was on my mind since I read your earlier post because I just can't imagine how the parents felt...
  • Gosh, that's a relief! So glad it's not cancer.

When I was a kid, they thought I had leukemia for a few days. It turned out to be roseola (an infection similar to measles) but I still remember how terrified my parents were.

  • oh man, thank God! I was thinking about you/her yesterday and last night. A coworker's son was diagnosed with cancer at 4 and he's been undergoing treatment for that last year; it's awful. Having a son the same age as him really scared the crap outta me and my heart breaks for every child who has to suffer through that.
Arthritis is no fun either but I'm sure the family is just so relieved it's not cancer.

  • What a relief!  JRA is still tough, but very much more managable!  One of FI's groomsmen has it and he lives a totally normal life with a life ad a two year old.
