FYI - Pocketfolds and the Post Office.

There's been a few posts lately about pocketfolds and the post office, so I thought I'd share my insights from this morning (sent them all of this morning!!).

I got a $.20 surcharge for the envelope being "too hard," what? really. And make sure they don't get to thick, mine were close to have be sent as a package, if they don't fit through their little slide, they can't be mailed as a letter.

Oh, and they really didn't want to hand cancel them, the main guy there was like "oh they should be fine going to the machine", but luckily that lady there said she would do them.

So pocketfold ladies, just be thinking about those things while your spending all this time making your invites. My invites were under 2 ounces, but they were $.81 cents to mail, and could have been a lot more if they were any thicker. GL. Happy to have them out of my hands.

    ah that scares me. I did pocketfolds and brought it to the PO. He said "Oh they're heavy." and told me $0.61.

    I'm mailing them next week so they better still be $0.61. Did you get them weighed ahead of time?

    Mine were $0.61. None of them were returned for insufficient postage. What kind of envelope are you using? I used the Stardreams envelopes. If you use square envelopes, those cost extra.

    Yep, this is part of the reason I didn't even consider doing pocketfolds. Too much of a PITA.

    FYI. The envelope has to be less then 1/4" thick to be considered not a package.  It makes sense; if it's thicker than that, the post office can't run them through the automated machines.  More work = higher cost.

    nope, I used the regular rectangular sized envelope, I really thought that .20 charge was ... whatever, but I thought I'd share.

    I'm surprised, too, to be honest.  I thought it was just a $0.64 for "nonmachineable" letters.  Are you sure it was under 2 ounces?  Weird.

    Yep, cause I asked how much they weighed, and she said 1.8 ounces.

    oh man...that sucks. I am going to take mine in next time I go to the post office and have them weigh it and tell me how much it will be, just so I am prepared for it : /
