Marian devotion--program help?

Hi ladies,

At our wedding in three weeks (eek!) I will be presenting a rose to the blessed mother after communion, while the Ave Maria is sung.

At our last meeting with our priest, he mentioned that this has not been commonly seen at weddings in recent years.  He suggested that we include an explanation in our programs for the benefit of anyone who may be unfamiliar with the tradition.

The devotion is to ask for her help in being a good wife and (someday) mother--but I'm not sure how to translate this into something that people who don't know what's going on (and might be non-Catholic) would understand.

Has anyone done this, and would you be willing to share what you wrote in your programs?

Thanks in advance!

As Catholics, we believe that Mary, the Mother of God, is the perfect model for family life, motherhood and obedience to God. Accordingly, we ask her to pray for us, both today and throughout our marriage.

This is what I have right now (sorry for the funny font -- it was cut and pasted). I'm still not quite happy with it, because programs are definitely in a rough draft phase. It should give you an idea, though.

We're actually going to do a devotion to the Holy Family, instead of just the Blessed Mother, so that my fiance can be involved -- he needs to be a good husband and father, too! ;) But re: your question, we're not doing an explaination, but rather including a prayer in our program that we'll invite people to pray, if they wish. Because of the prayer's wording, it's pretty obvious what the purpose of this is for, and we don't have to come up with awkward wording of our own. There's so many prayers to Our Lady out there, I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem finding something you would like!

Here is what we are putting:

We look to Mary as the perfect example of wife and mother, and to the Holy Family as model, so we hope to emulate in our lives together.  We'll be praying that Mary's example will guide our family on God's path for us.

Be  careful to be consistent with the person point of view.  If you are writing your program in third person, remember to change "we" to "bride and groom."
