what does on during sand ceremony.

Like, should we pick a song to be played? Do we have the officiant read something?

Re: what does on during sand ceremony.

  • Skip the song.

Our officiant read a scripture about the sand representing each of our lives and the pouring of the sand into the vessel represents our lives coming together.....or something like that.  I was too giddy to remember all of the details ;)

You can easily Google "sand ceremony readings" and you will find tons of different ones to use.

  • I've seen songs played during a sand ceremony (and unity candle) that go on longer than the sand pouring/candle lighting and the bride & groom just sort of stand there.  If you want music to fill the silence, pick an instrumental piece that can be shortened as needed.  I mentioned the idea of a reading to my priest. He said that in the ceremony, we would have already had the readings and a homily about the readings we chose.  Adding another reading at that point might feel out of place.  He would definitely let us do a reading, but personally suggested an instrumental piece.

  • We just had our minister say a few quick words about the meaning of the sand ceremony.  He moved to the side and then we poured our sand while some instrumental music played.  The music was just light and airy and played for just under 2 minutes.
