DJ cost???

Hey Ladies!!   Just wondering what everyone else paid/paying, trying to justify the cost to FI.  For 5 hours we were quoted $700...(discounted price, which I think is pretty reasonable)....We went to college with them and heard them DJ at a wedding we went to recently (FI danced his behind off and he NEVER dances).  They are well known and have also done alot of industry events.  Basically, I know they will do a great job...but FI thinks it is too much.  What do you ladies think??  Thanks for your input!!

    ThAt sounds like a really good price. I'm searching in Phoenix and for the same amount of time many are charging between $1200-2000. now that's too much. I guess you also gotta see whats the average in your area. That'll help you.

    Thanks, I just think he has no idea what everything costs =).  DJs around here are normally $1000+.  Our DJ normally charges $1000. I think $700 is a great price.   I found someone for $500 but I'm willing to pay the extra money to ensure that our guests will have a great time.

    Our DJ is a family friend and is absolutely fabulous.  Not to mention he cut us a GREAT deal.  We are only paying $150 for him... The standard in our city is $900-$1500 so we are saving a crap ton of money and know we will love it.  He does a fantastic job.

    $1100.00 for my DJ but he is well worth it. I can't wait for him to get his spin on at the wedding.

    lol @ crap ton.  Good for you!!  We tried to go the family route but that didn't work out.  I know if I did enough research (friends/family) I could probably find someone to do it for less than $700.  However, I am tired of calling, emailing and meeting with vendors.  I just want to put a check next to DJ already.  We have a lot to do in a short period of time (we just started planning 6 weeks ago).

    Our DJ is 200. I used to bartend at the club where he spins and the owner got us that price. He is AWESOME I can't wait!

    Yes my FI is the same way. He doesn't wanna pay for anything but wants everything. $2 is too expensive. I just think that since I'm putting in all the work, he has no concept of how much things cost

    Our DJ is going to cost $600 - They come highly recommended, we will see how they do.  We've had to go by reviews mostly since we are doing a DW.

    This!!! Our DJ is FI frat brother so he was cool about everything.  My mother is a paralegal and is still going to draft a contract.  I'm just going to give him a list of songs I want to hear.  He did my line sister's wedding/reception 2 years ago and we had a great time.  You are getting a great price b/c I've been to quite a few bridal shows and the going rate in Memphis seems to be b/w $1000 and $1500 for 6 hrs.  So great job!

    Our DJ is charging us $395. He DJs at one of my BFFs uncle's summer parties every year. I've been to a few of the parties and he's cool. Also, he DJs at a local club. FI & I went to see him DJ there to make sure he could really keep a party going.

    That's not a bad price at all. Our DJ is costing us $500 and he is excellent. He's also doing my cousins wedding. And my rehersal dinner/party.

    If your FI was dancing the night away last time he heard your DJ than you should book him. $700 is a good deal. Do you know if he plays from a computer or if he uses wax?

    I am only using a DJ for cocktail hour and when the Band takes breaks and he is well known. He is charging us $800. But he has a computer and turn tables so he really mixes and fades songs. Very talented and he will announce the WP and keep the guests on track when it is time to cut the cake.

    The average cost for a DJ professional in Houston is between $800 - $2000.

    I would go get quotes from other DJs and when he finds out how much they cost then he will be fine with the price

    I say bargain with your DJ!!! Our wedding is on a Sunday and that's how we got the cost more within our price range ($400). I had the same problem in that what I thought was reasonable, FH thought was too expensive. So, I lovingly asked him to take care of securing the DJ for us.... and he did... at a price we are both comfortable with!

    Our DJ was around 700. He is doing our entire day, and he is a local radio station dj. It was the fi's pick .

    Thanks for all of your input!!  Finally got the ok from FI, we attended another wedding and he did not dance at all....I think that this experience drove home the point of having a great DJ.  So that issue is resolved and I can put a check next to DJ!!!
