ice cream for reception?

So my fiance and I are not big cake fans and I wanted to do something different. Our first date was at an ice cream shop and I was wondering if we could rent an ice cream maker or would itj ust be easier to get an ice cream cart and stuff it full of ice cream bars? Just wondering any other ideas are appreciated

Re: ice cream for reception?

  • Graeters will cater ice cream bars. I went to a reception that had one all setup with several topping choices. It was fun.
  • I had a friend who did an ice cream bar and it went over great!   She did different favors of ice creams with different sorts of toppings.

  • Niece served Graeter's chip wheelies, guests helped themselves and leftovers went home with family.  No spoilage either.
Daughter had gelato from Findley Market,  Dojo <-- big hit!, along with cakepops

  • This is such a good idea! I love it! We're not big cake people either (though I must admit our cake tasting was super delicious) and this would have been a really fun alternative! I feel like a lot of those big, expensive cakes get wasted at weddings. As a guest, I would love to discover that Graeter's was for desert instead of cake!
  • Another fun idea - Street Pops is a local vendor that just popped up in the last few years. They have gormet ingredient popsicles - flavors could be chocolate chili pepper, blueberry merlot, among 30 plus others. Maybe you could make a signature popsicle. I could see this being a hit with the younger and older crowd. I have sampled them several times at various outings I have been a part of, somehow they keeping showing up with free popsicles to sample. http://www.streetpops.com/

Their staff is professional and the product was great.
  • We're having a Gelato bar at our wedding. We're using Aroma's Gelato, which is located on the west side. They have been extremely accommodating, and are allowing us to serve 7 flavors of gelato they can make over 100 different flavors. They turned out to be cheaper than Graeters, and are charging only 3 per person for 2 hours of unlimited gelato. Our wedding is in 1 week... So I'll let you know how it goes!
  • Dojo Gelato (at Findlay market) will do a gelato cart and they will make custom flavors for you, so you can do something that represents you.
