September colors

Hi Ladies,

My fiance and I were originally planning a late September or October wedding.  We were going to go with the fall theme. Our colors were going to be dark red (like a cranberry) and burnt orange.  It looks like all of the late September and October dates have been booked.  Right now we are looking at September 14th.  I am torn now about using those colors.  We both really like them, but I kind of feel like September 14th is still summer, so they are too dark to use.  What do you guys think.

By the way, it will be an evening wedding.

Thoughts?

Thank you!!

Re: September colors

  • I am also getting married 9.14 we are having an outdoor theme but not really dong summerish or fallish colors. Our colors are Platinum and fushia. I talked to a few different people, decorators, bridal consultants, etc. to see if platinum and silver were odd for a september outdoor wedding and all of them told me that September is pretty much a month you can get away with about any color scheme. So id say if you like the fall colors go for it :)

  • I think you should use whatever colors you want.

I wouldn't side eye fall colors in September.  It's a month when you can really do whatever you want.  When I was a kid, September was fall.  We started school and you don't have school during the summer.  Now, I view it more as summer because my seasons are more dependent on weather.

    Your colors sound pretty!
  • I think those are really pretty colors! Heck, if stores can put Christmas decor out for sale in Sept you can use fall colors for ur wedding! Jk that was random but I agree with the others that Sept is really a month you could go either way with the colors.

  • That was my one of my favourite things about a September wedding, that it's right on the borderline of summer and fall!

Plus you don't need to let the season dictate your color choices! My wedding is September 7th so it's more summery, but I'm doing plum and orange.  Cranberry with orange would be gorgeous!
  • Another vote for do whatever you want!  I think we all obsess about things like this like colors fitting the season/theme/venue colors and everything else under the sun when all that matters if that you are happy with it!  Your choice of colors sound gorgeous!  If you are worried about it being too dark, bring a lighter accent color in!  Or lighten the colors up just a bit...this is pretty!

  • I am also doing September 14th....and I was also originally unsure about the summer vs. fall thing, as well.  Try to draw inspiration from whatever your setting is...we are getting married at a seaport venue, so navy blue is one of our colors.  You can also ask your florist what flowers would be in season around then, and use that for inspiration.  Or, think about what your favorite color is, and go from there!   Anything goes, and because you are in between seasons, nothing will look off-season.

  • I say those colors will be fine. We are also having a fall theme on September 14th. My colors are going to be brown (bridesmaids) and my guys will wear dress pants , white shirt with a burnt orange tie.

  • I'm glad you posted this! I had the same thing happen to me, looking at October or late-September, and then going with Sept. 14 because that was when my venue was open! We're going with a blue theme, but I think we'll be doing fall accents. The way I see it, Sept. 14 is only about a week before the official start of fall, and usually there are at least one or two trees starting to change by then. I think you're good to go with fall colors.

  • Our colors are so out of the ordinary compared to all of yours. We are doing black, charcoal, royal blue and violet.

  • I love your color choices! Definitely go with what you want, it sounds like a beautiful combination.

We're using light brown/champagne/copper/venetian gold which feels pretty "fall" for our September 7 wedding, but we're getting married at the zoo near the giraffes and felt they would complement the setting the best Smile
