Experience with renting tux vs. buying suit...

I was just curious as to what others thought about the groomsmen buying suits vs. renting a tux? I really wanted gray suits for the guys and apparently you can't rent gray suits. I went to my local Men's Warehouse today today it was only a $20 difference between renting a black tux and buying the gray suit ($179 and $199). Has anyone had the guys buy over rent or plan on doing that? Thanks ahead of time for any thoughts on this!

    Purchasing a suit is a better idea. Your FI and wedding party could keep them for other events. Also, yolu don't really need a tux unless you are having a formal sit down dinner

    All of my guys wore black suits.  DH purchased a new one that was more tailored for him than his older suits (a bit more expensive).  Only one of the GM didn't have a solid black suit but he said he should have one anyway so it wasn't a problem.  We didn't require them to have a specific style (2 vs 3 button jackets) and asked to wear a white shirt.  We provided the ties.

    Look around. My FI is wearing a suit as he said he would prefer not to wear a tux. His suit Jacket, Pants, Shirt, and Tie retailed for $400 but we got it for $135 at Kohl's. You can order pieces online or check in store his is gray so that is why I suggest this.

    I agree that buying over renting sounds better but I didn't know if that was a common thing people did. I also agree that I can probably look around and get even better prices! Thanks for your input ladies!

    Were buying...at first we were goin to rent black tuxs with navy blue vest/ties..but DH is in all white....our colors are navy blue/white/yellow....so I didnt like the gm in black..i wanted them in navy blue..to rent the black tux was $120..to buy the navy blue suit and rent shirt/shoes $135 (on sale right now)...were buying and I have piece of mind..

    My husband and all the groomsmen purchased black suits. We purchased silk silver ties and handkerchief sets for them as gifts. I purchased a slightly different grey vest, tie and handkerchief set for my husband. The tie and handkerchief sets can be found online at various vendors (Macy's, J C Penney) so you can have them all match if you like.

    Our guys purchased tan suits.  Buying each piece of the ensemble can get really pricey even if the suits themselves are inexpensive so try to be considerate of that. 

    We purchased the ties for them and told them they could wear any shoes (brown or black) that they wanted and asked them to wear white shirts because those would be things that most of them already owned.
