Help - wedding venue canceled

Hey all! I really need help. My wedding venue (Hyatt New Brunswick) canceled on me today for my wedding on July 3, 2010.  They got a better deal. I need help finding a venue. Any help - I would greatly appreciate it.

Did you not have a signed contract with them?  How could they just cancel?

In any event - what price are you looking for, what area, what's your minimum, day or night?

Most hotel contracts say they have the right to cancel... but check yours.

Basically it means that they were able to book a more lucrative event. They should return your deposit.  In some cases they will help you find a new place.  Where is this girl. Who posts and run after asking for help?!

LOL, Danes, I was just thinking the same thing.  I never understood why knotties come post with all "OMGs", "help", "urgent" then disappear.

But I digress, Yanks, I think you still have ample time to find a hall except for the fact it is a holiday weekend. We can help offer suggestions if you answer some of caketime's qu's from above.

A word of advice for you:  If you ask for help, do not post and run.  Why would we want to help you when you are not willing to help yourself?

i'd love to hear more details.. this sounds fishy.  more lucrative event or not, that is a deal-breaker imo.  who'd sign a contract like that?

My very first post here, I posted & ran, because I had no idea what an active forum it is.  Most forums aren't, ya know!

We are very curious though - need more info.  What happened to your deposit?

And if you are asking for help in choosing a new venue, it shouldn't have much to do with your other one right?  So as with all brides starting from scratch, give some idea of your desired location, budget, etc., and ask for recs.

I hate when people post and run. I am very curious as to what happened because my family throws events at that hyatt all the time and none have ever been cancelled and we certainly wouldn't sign a contract that would allow for this to happen. Also I am getting married July 3, 2010 and did a hotel block for 75 rooms at the hyatt so even more of a reason for me to be interested.

Wow - first off, I apologize for "posting and running." I was working. I never really posted but I thought maybe I should try. I'm not a pro at this so please be forgiving. Not to mention, I don't know how to find my post so I had to search to get back.

Additionally - I did sign a contract and I did put a deposit down however the contract included a cancellation clause.  I am being compensated per the clause and the hotel contact is searching for venues to help. And for the person that stated why I would sign a contract like that - it's a standard clause for their contract. If someone was able to have that clause excluded or removed from their contract please tell me.

However, I am a little freaked out. I was paying $85 per head (exclusive of food) (inclusive of taxes and gratuity) which included open bar, cake, ice sculpture and all the fixings. Plus $7 plus tax and gratuity for lunch (Morning ceremony and evening reception).  Included a bridal suite and one in-law suite (though we were working on two).  I did a 20 room block for three nights (Thurs-Sun).

Basically I'm looking for something about the same pricing and including the same things. I would like to stay in the New Brunswick area or Central Jersey, but at this point I'm open.

I hope this helps. I appreciate your help.

That is an interesting deal. $85 for open bar and dessert and then $7 for lunch?

I don't get it. Are you serving dinner food at the reception?

I'm getting married at the Imperia. Honestly I don't know any where near New Brunswick that you would be able to have that price. Especially since its peek season. I think even the afternoon receptions were at least 100pp. You could try the Pines Manor in Edison it is close enough for your guest to still stay at the Hyatt. Ask for Jackie if you go there she is really great.

How much is your outside caterer charging?

Do you have to use an outside caterer?

I guess, I'm not too sure of pricing for places that don't have to provide the food, because I didn't look at any packages like that.

I am having 100 for the ceremony and 250 for the reception. Yes we have to an outside caterer because this is an indian wedding - so we need indian food.

wpsmall - We actually went to the Imperia but the lady never followed up with us. It is a beautiful venue. Congrats!

Can't help with the pricing or specific places but I'd suggest checking other hotels, making sure that clause is not in the contract.  Then you could easily have your hotel block there instead.  Also, try some country clubs they might be somewhat near that price and then you could do a hotel with a shuttle service.

The New Brunswick Hyatt is known for doing shady things like that. They did something similar to someone I know. I'm not sure how many people it holds but did they give the option of holding your reception in the smaller room?

Regarding other venues... I second Pines Manor.  I think they might be in your price range.  You might also want to check out Farrington Manor. It is not a super fancy venue but it is near by and also within your budget.

Have you considered having your reception at a venue that specializes in Indian food?  There seem to be quite a few around central Jersey.

You obviously looked around prior to booking this venue, can you go back to any of those venues that said "yes you can bring in an outside caterer"  and see if they are still available.  I personally haven't heard of an inclusive place offer to allow an outside caterer in but as Tiff said that is probably because I never looked for that.

You can switch OOT Hotels, and honestly I would change it, I wouldn't work with this place after this even if they begged.

Try the Double Tree Somerset.  I used to work there.  Susan is the woman who handles the Indian weddings she is really nice.  I think they will be in your price range.  They  ballroom is recently renovated. GL.

That price is pretty standard when you're using at outside caterer.  The price reflects the use of the facilities, linens, etc.  Just not food.  When I was searching, many venues did not allow for this, however most hotels do.

That being said, you could try the Somerset Crowne Plaza (I had my reception there), the Doubletree in Somerset or the Heldrich.  They would likely be around the same pricepoint for an outside catered event.  If you're willing to travel a little further south, the Westin and the Hyatt in Priceton are both nice.

And as someone mentioned, you could go with an Indian facility.  I had my ceremony at Rasoi in South Brunswick.  There's also Chutney Manor, Akbar and Royal Albert's Palace in the area.

Jackie is no longer at the Pines.  I think she's now at the Crowne Plaza Somerset, but I second the recommendation of her!

Try the Hyatt in Morristown (providing you're not scarred from Hyatt New Brunswick cancelling). We're paying $90pp plus tax and service charge but we had to have a high guarantee to get it.
